대학신입생의 자기통제의 어려움과 대학생활적응 간의 관계: 대학생활스트레스의 매개효과

국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구는 대학 신입생의 자기통제의 어려움이 대학생활적응에 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고, 이 과정에서 관계 스트레스와 학업 스트레스의 매개효과를 확인하고자 실시되었다. 연구방법: 대학 신입생 414명을 대상으로 스트레스 취약성-자기통제 척도, 대학생활적응 척도, 대학생활스트레스 척도를 실시하고, 구조방정식모형을 이용하여 설문자료를 분석하였다. 연구결과: 구조방정식모형 분석 결과, 자기통제의 어려움과 관계 스트레스, 학업 스트레스는 대학신입생의 대학생활적응을 모두 직접 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 자기통제의 어려움과 대학생활적응 간의 관계에서 관계 스트레스와 학업 스트레스의 단순매개효과가 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 자기통제의 어려움이 관계 스트레스와 학업 스트레스를 거쳐 대학생활적응의 어려움에 이르는 이중매개효과 역시 유의미한 것으로 확인되었다. 결론: 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 자기통제 및 대학생활 스트레스가 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향에 대해 논의하고, 대학신입생의 적응을 향상시킬 수 있는 방안에 대해 논의하였다. 본 연구는 대학신입생의 대학생활에 적응에 영향을 미치는 요인과 경로를 확인함으로써 학업을 지속하고 적응을 조력할 수 있는 구체적인 방안을 모색하는데 기여할 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Objective: This study aimed to examine whether difficulty in self-control among college freshmen predicts their college adjustment and whether relational and academic stress mediate this relationship. Methods: Self-report data of 414 college freshmen(177 male, 237 female) were analyzed with structural equation modeling using SPSS 21 and Mplus 7.1. Results: Firstly, difficulty in self-control negatively predicted college adjustment and positively predicted relational and academic stress among college freshmen. Secondly, bootstrapping showed that relational stress and academic stress mediated the relationship between difficulty in self-control and college adjustment. Additionally, the double mediation effect of relational and academic stress on the relationship between difficulty in self-control and college adjustment was significant. Conclusions: College freshmen who had difficulty in self-control tended to have high relational and academic stress, which in turn were associated with maladaptive college life. Based on these findings, it was concluded that college adaptation can be enhanced by an intervention to increase self-control and stress management.
