이항로의 주리론적 성리학 특징 고찰

국문 초록

본 논문에서는 화서의 주리론적 사고가 이기론과 심성론, 특히 인심도심설과 사단칠정론을 중심으로 그의 성리설 전반으로 어떻게 전개되어 나갔는지를 살펴보고, 아울러 이러한 주리론적 사고는 그대로 그의 위정척사운동과 같은 救國실천의 이론적 근거로 이어짐을 확인한다. 무엇보다 화서는 기와 섞이지 않는 리의 독자성을 강조한다. 기와 섞지 않고 오로지 리만을 말할 때에 비로소 기를 통솔․주재하는 리의 독자적 지위가 확보된다. 이것은 그대로 理先氣後․理尊氣卑․理主氣役․理善氣惡 등의 사고로 이어지며, 동시에 인심도심설과 사단칠정론과 같은 그의 심성론에서도 그대로 전개된다. 결국 화서의 주리론적 사고는 당시 정국이 救國의 실천을 요구하는 긴박한 시기에 위정척사운동을 전개하여 유학자들의 적극적 현실참여를 실현하는데 중요한 이론적 근거를 제공한다.

영문 초록

In this paper, examine how his Juri theoretical thinking developed in neo-confucianism, focusing on the contents of the insimdosim and sadanchiljung among Hwaseo's Ligi and simsung theory, and confirm that these Juri theoretical thinking leads to the theoretical basis of his saving the country practice. Above all, Hwaseo emphasizes Li's uniqueness that does not mix with Gi. Li's an independent positionition as the leader and presiding over the Gi is secured only when speaks only Li without mixing it with Gi, which leads to thinking such as Lisun-Gihu, Lijon-Gibi, Liju-Giyeug, and Risun-Giak, and at the same time, it also develops in simsung theories such as his insimdosim and sadanchiljung. In the end, Hwaseo's Juri theoretical thinking provided an important theoretical basis for realizing the active participation of confucian scholars during an urgent period when the political situation demanded the implementation of the salvation.
