국문 초록

본 논문은 도덕판단을 의식적 현상으로 규정하고, 이를 과학적으로 설명하기 위해 학제적 접근이 필요함을 강조한다. 신경과학, 도덕심리학, 그리고 과학철학의 통찰을 바탕으로 메커니즘적 관점을 채택하여 도덕판단을 정보적 다양성, 기능적 역동성, 그리고 지향성이라는 세 가지 차원에서 분석한다. 메커니즘적 접근은 도덕판단을 구성 요소로 분해하는 데 강력한 토대를 제공하지만, 수준 간 실험에 대한 의존과 복잡한 신경 과정에서의 인과적 연결을 확립하는 데 있어 한계를 가진다. 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위해 본 논문은 주요 신경과학적 의식 이론들을 검토한다. 이 중에서도 광역 작업공간 이론(GWT)은 도덕판단의 다양한 구성 요소를 통합하는 데 가장 적합한 이론으로 확인되었으며, 분산된 신경 과정을 통합하여 통합된 의식 경험으로 연결하는 동적인 모델을 제공한다. 메커니즘 철학과 GWT를 결합함으로써, 본 논문은 도덕판단을 다면적이고 의식적인 현상으로 이해하기 위한 새로운 설명 틀을 제안한다.

영문 초록

This paper explores moral judgments as conscious phenomena, highlighting the necessity of an interdisciplinary approach to achieve a comprehensive scientific understanding. Integrating insights from neuroscience, moral psychology, and philosophy of science, it adopts a mechanistic framework to analyze moral judgments through three dimensions: informational diversity, functional dynamics, and intentionality. While the mechanistic approach provides a robust foundation for decomposing moral judgments into their constitutive elements, it faces limitations in establishing causal relationships across neural levels and integrating complex cognitive processes. To address these challenges, it evaluates neuroscientific theories of consciousness, identifying Global Workspace Theory (GWT) as the most suitable framework for unifying distributed neural processes into coherent conscious experiences. By synthesizing the New Mechanism with GWT, this paper offers a novel explanatory model for understanding moral judgments as multidimensional, integrative, and conscious phenomena.
