퇴계 이황의 감정론으로 본 막스 베버사상의 수용에 관한 연구

국문 초록

한국적인 것이 세계적이라는 이름에 걸맞게 한류는 세계적 흐름을 타고 있다. 넷플릭스 관계자는 K-콘텐츠는 감정적 묘사에 능한 것이 이유라고 말한다. 한국국학진흥원도 감정을 한국의 10대 문화유전자로 선정하였다. 퇴계는 한국에 감정론의 사유를 주류로 올려 놓은 인물이다. 사단칠정 논쟁은 조선의 300년을 이끌어 가는 사상이었다. 막스 베버는 근대 한국에 영향을 가장 많이 끼친 사상가이다. 베버는 개신교 윤리의 합리성과 자본주의 정신을 잘 풀어낸 학자이다. 한국은 퇴계라는 감정론이 주류를 잡았던 사회에서 베버를 받아들이게 되었다. 이러한 수용이 자연스러웠던 이유는 퇴계의 천명사상과 베버의 소명의식이 어느 정도 합치점이 있었기 때문이다. 하지만 퇴계의 따뜻한 인간을 추구한 감정론은 베버의 노동에 대한 소명의식으로 차가운 기계적 인간을 만들게 되었다. 오늘날 한국은 내부적으로 고통 속에 있다. 출산율 최하위, 자살위 최상위로 암묵적 자살사회이다. 이러한 원인은 따뜻한 감정의 소중함에서 존재의 이유를 찾던 사람들에게 차가운 기계적 인간을 바라기 때문일 것이다. 한국은 미래에 무엇을 놓고 무엇을 잡아야 하는가? 우리 사회에 필요한 것은 퇴계가 주장한 공공을 위한 영적이며 종교적인 감정의 회복이다.

영문 초록

Commensurating with the title that what's Korean is what's global, Korean wave has been going with the worldwide flow. A person in Netflix said it's because K-contents are good at emotional descriptions. The Korean Studies Institute also selected emotions as one of top ten cultural genes of Korea. Toegye is a person who made it enter the mainstream of Korea to reason the theory of emotions. The argument over Sadan Chiljeong was the ideology which led 300 years of Joseon dynasty. Max Weber was one of the most influential thinkers in modern Korea. He was a scholar who explained the rationality of protestant morality and the spirit of capitalism well. In Korea where Toegye's theory of emotions had been mainstreamed, Weber's ideology was accepted naturally because Toegye's idea of the mandate of heaven and Weber's sense of calling agreed with each other to some degree. Yet, Toegye's theory of emotions pursuing a warm individual came to create a cold, mechanical person with Weber's sense of calling for labor. Today, Korea is in internal pain. With the lowest birthrate and the highest suicide rate, it has become an implicit suicidal society. It might be because we want cold and mechanical human beings from the people who used to find the reason for existence in the precious warm emotions. What should Korea let go and what should it grab in the future? What our society needs is recovering the spiritual and religious sentiments which Toegye claimed for the publuc.
