아동 권리 관련 기후위기 문제에 대한 아동⋅청소년 인식 및 대응 활동 참여 실태 조사

국문 초록

이 연구는 아동 권리와 관련한 기후위기 문제를 아동·청소년들이 어떻게 인식하고 있으며, 이에 대응하는 활동의 참여 실태는 어떠한지 분석하는 것을 목표로 한다. 전국에 있는 660명의 초·중·고 아동·청소년을 대상으로 아동 권리와 관련한 기후위기 문제 인식, 기후위기 대응 활동에 대한 인식 및 참여 실태를 온라인 설문 조사하였다. 그 결과를 설문 문항별로 분석하였고, 일부 문항에 대해서는 SPSS 프로그램을 활용한 독립 표본 T 검정 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아동·청소년들은 아동 권리와 관련한 기후위기 문제를 어느 정도 인식하고 있는데, 관련 교육을 받았는지에 따라 기후 정의 의식, 기후위기에 대한 전반적 의식, 기후위기 대응 행동 의향에 차이가 있었다. 둘째, 아동·청소년들은 아동 권리와 관련한 기후위기 대응 활동이 주변 사람에게 미치는 영향력이 어느 정도 있을 것이라고 보았지만 정부 정책이나 제도에 미치는 영향력이 그보다는 낮을 것으로 보았다. 셋째, 아동 권리 관련 기후위기 대응 활동에 40.2%의 아동·청소년이 참여한 적이 있다고 응답하였는데, 참여 여부에 따라 아동·청소년들의 기후위기 관심도, 지식의 정도, 심각하다고 느끼는 정도에 차이가 있었다. 이 결과는 아동·청소년의 권리와 관련지어 기후위기 대응 교육을 함으로써 아동·청소년의 기후위기 대응 행동 의지를 높이고 기후위기 관련 의사 결정에 아동·청소년이 참여하도록 하는 방안을 마련할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze how children and youth perceive the climate crisis issue related to children's rights and how they participate in activities to respond to them. An online survey conducted on 660 students at the elementary, middle, and high school level across the country analyzed the student’s awareness of climate crisis-related issues and their relationship to children's rights, awareness of climate crisis response activities, and their participation in them. The results were analyzed for each question and an independent sample T-test analysis was conducted using the SPSS program for some questions. The results of the study indicate that although children and youth are aware of the climate crisis issues related to children's rights to some extent, there are differences in climate justice consciousness, overall awareness of the climate crisis, and willingness to act in response to the climate crisis, which depends on their level of relevant education. Furthermore, they believed that their response activities to the climate crisis would impact people around them more effectively than government-imposed policies or systems. Moreover, 40.2% of children and youth reported that they had already participated in climate crisis response activities related to children's rights. The differences in the extent of interest, knowledge, and severity of the climate crisis among children and adolescents directly corresponded to their prior active participation in climate crisis response activities. These results suggest that it is necessary to prepare measures to increase the will of children and youth to act in response to the climate crisis and to engage them in the decision-making processes related to climate crisis by providing them with proper education on the climate crisis response in relation to the rights of children and youth.
