학습자 중심 수업과 교수자 중심 수업이 중학생의 교과 흥미에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

이 연구는 경기교육종단연구 데이터를 활용하여 학습자 중심 수업과 교수자 중심 수업이 중학생의 영어와 수학 교과 흥미에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 또한, 구체적으로 학생의 성취수준에 따라 하위, 중위, 상위집단으로 나누어 집단별 교과 흥미가 차이를 보이는지 확인하였다. 다중회귀분석과 고정효과모형을 활용하여 분석한 결과 학습자 중심 수업의 경우 학생의 영어와 수학 교과 흥미에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 반면, 교수자 중심 수업은 영어와 수학 교과 흥미에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 학생들의 성취수준에 따라 집단별로 수업방법의 영향력을 분석한 결과 학습자 중심 수업은 하위와 중위, 그리고 상위집단의 영어와 수학 교과 흥미에 모두 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 교수자 중심 수업은 상위집단의 수학 교과 흥미에만 유의미한 영향을 제공하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 분석 결과를 통해 이 연구는 학습자 중심 수업을 확대하기 위해 교실 수업에 대한 정책적 지원이 요구된다는 점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the influence of learner-centered and teacher-centered instruction on middle school students’ subject interest. Also, this study specifically examined if subject interest varies for students of different achievement levels: low-, medium-, and high-achieving students. Multiple regression analysis with the fixed effects model was used based on data from the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study 2012 (GEPS 2012). The results indicated that learner-centered instruction positively impacted student interest in English and mathematics, whereas teacher-centered instruction did not. After analyzing interests by achievement level, learner-centered instruction was a significant positive predictor of interest in English and mathematics for all groups: low-, medium-, and high-achieving students. However, teacher-centered instruction was significantly positively associated with interest in mathematics for high-achieving students. These findings add to the growing evidence that learner-centered instruction plays a more critical role in enhancing students’ subject interest than teacher-centered instruction.
