영문 초록

This study examined the mediating effect of the modes of mentalization in the relationship between adult attachment (attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance) and romantic relationship satisfaction among university students. A survey was conducted on 245 students enrolled in universities in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do, and 216 responses were used in the analysis. The study findings revealed that attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance were found to be related to different modes of mentalization. Both deficits of affection awareness and concrete thinking were found to completely mediate the relationship between attachment anxiety and romantic relationship satisfaction. Additionally, both direct and indirect effects were not significant between attachment avoidance and romantic relationship satisfaction. These findings suggest that distorted mentalization attributed to increased attachment anxiety impairs romantic relationship satisfaction, whereas distorted mentalization caused by increased attachment avoidance does not affect romantic relationship satisfaction. The relationship between the modes of mentalization and the dimensions of adult attachment was specifically considered in this study. Furthermore, therapeutic implications for intervention strategies with clients who complain of difficulties in establishing intimate relationships in the university counseling scene were also discussed.
