국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 고등학교 사회과 선택과목인「사회·문화」교과서에 서술된 젠더 평등의 개념을 페미니즘의 이론적 관점에서 분석하는 것이다. 연구자는 젠더 평등의 개념과 이론적 관점의 검토를 거쳐, 교과서 내용 분석을 위한 질적 내용 분석틀을 개발하였고, 이를 교과서 단원 분석에 활용하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째,「사회·문화」교과서에서 나타난 젠더 개념은 급진적 페미니즘의 요소가 부분적으로 가미된 자유주의 페미니즘의 관점을 취하고 있었다. 둘째, 양성평등주의의 암묵적 원칙이 적용되면서 특정한 젠더 정체성과 경험에 대한 이야기가 배제되는 경향을 보였고, 이로 인해 젠더 삭제(gender erasure)에 의한 젠더 개념의 왜곡이 발생하였다. 셋째,「사회·문화」교과서의 젠더 평등 개념은 국가주의의 이데올로기의 암묵적인 영향을 받고 있었으며, 그로 인해 젠더 이슈의 경계성과 확장성에 대한 학습이 제한되고 젠더 이슈에 내포된 세계시민교육적 함의가 간과되는 경향이 나타났다. 본 연구는 주요 연구 결과를 통해 2022 개정 교육과정에 기반한 교과서 연구, 학교 안 젠더 교육 연구, 학교 교육과정 정책 연구 등의 분야에 가지는 교육적 함의를 제공하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the concept of gender equality described in the high school social studies elective subject “Social and Culture” textbooks from the theoretical perspective of feminism. After reviewing the concept of gender equality and theoretical streams, the researcher developed a framework of content analysis for the textbooks and applied it to the analysis of the relevant textbook units. The major findings from this study are summarized as follows. First, the concept of gender in ‘Social and Culture’ textbooks took the perspective of liberal feminism combined with the partial elements of radical feminism. Second, ‘education of equality for two sexes (yangseong pyeongdeung kyoyuk)’ as the implicit principle was found across all five textbooks; stories of particular gender identities and experiences tended to be excluded by so-called ‘gender erasure,’ resulting in a distortion of the concept of gender. Third, the concept of gender equality in ‘Society and Culture’ textbooks was also characterized by the exclusivity of nationalistic feminism; as a result, the learning about the boundaries and scalability of gender issues tended to be limited or overlooked. The major research findigs of the study provide educational implications for the fields of the textbook research based on the 2022 revised curriculum, the research on gender education, and the research on school curriculum policies.
