다큐멘터리 사진의 미술교육적 의의 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 시각문화로서 다큐멘터리 사진의 개념과 특징을 살핌으로써 미술교육적의의를 모색하고자 하였다. 객관성이나 진실성의 가치만을 지니던 초기 다큐멘터리에서확장된 현대 다큐멘터리 사진은 주관적 통찰을 토대로 하는 정치적·사회적 의미와 함께미학적 형식을 추구한다. 시각문화교육의 맥락에서는 다큐멘터리 사진에 내재하는 이데올로기와 신화에 대해 비판적으로 사고함으로써 미학적 관점에서 전 공동체적 가치를논의할 수 있다. 이는 크게 ‘다큐멘터리 사진을 제작하는 방안’과 ‘다큐멘터리 사진에대한 읽기 방안’으로 나누어 설명할 수 있다. 학생들은 결정적 순간을 포착하여 자신이하고자 하는 이야기를 시각적으로 만들어냄으로써 예술적 실천과 상호작용, 상호주관성을 경험할 수 있다. 미학과 정치성을 포함하는 다큐멘터리 사진을 읽어내는 과정에서는비판적 사고, 공감 능력, 사회참여에 대한 책임 의식을 함양할 수 있다. 수업 결과, 학생들은 첫째, 상호작용을 통하여 비판적 사고를 확장하였다. 둘째, 협업을 기반으로세계시민성을 함양하였다. 셋째, ‘결정적 순간’을 포착하는 예술적 실천을 하였다. 넷째, 자기주도적 탐구를 통한 행위주체성을 경험하였다. 다큐멘터리 사진에 관한 미적 경험은표현 매체의 확장 가능성을 실현하게 하며, 미술교육의 맥락에서 고등사고능력의 확장및 예술적 시민성, 사회적 책임의식을 함양한다는 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study tried to explore the significance of art education by examining the concept and characteristics of documentary photography as visual culture. Modern documentary photography, which has been expanded from the early documentary, which had only the value of objectivity or truthfulness, pursues an aesthetic form with political and social meaning based on subjective insight. In the context of visual culture education, it is possible to discuss the value of the whole community from an aesthetic point of view by critically thinking about the ideology and myth inherent in documentary photography. This can be broadly explained by dividing it into a method for producing documentary photos and a method for reading documentary photos. Students can experience artistic practice, interaction, and inter-subjectivity by visually creating the story they want to tell by capturing the decisive moment. Critical thinking, empathy, and a sense of responsibility for social participation can be cultivated while reading documentary photos that include aesthetics and politics. As a result of the class, students first expanded their critical thinking through interaction. Second, global citizenship was cultivated based on collaboration. Third, the artistic practice was carried out to capture the 'decisive moment'. Fourth, they experienced agency through self-directed inquiry. The aesthetic experience of documentary photography realizes the possibility of expanding the medium of expression, and in the context of art education, it is meaningful in that it expands the higher thinking ability, and cultivates artistic citizenship and social responsibility.
