국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 이혼한 남성 한부모의 양육과정에서 경험학습의 의미를 탐색하는 것이었다. 이 목적을 달성하기 위한 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이혼한 남성 한부모의 양육과정은 어떠한가? 둘째, 이혼한 남성 한부모의 양육과정을 통한 경험학습의 의미는 무엇인가? 이를 위해서 이혼 후 한부모 가장이 된 남성 7명을 대상으로 ‘기본적 질적연구(generic qualitative research)’를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 16개의 범주를 도출하였고 이를 4개의 영역으로 나누어 양육경험을 분석한 결과 “자식을 위해 짊어진 삶”, “가슴으로 우는 아버지의 눈물”, “삶의 무게를 딛고 일어서는 아버지의 몸부림”, “자식이 우주인 아버지의 보람, 행복, 그리고 희망”으로 나타났다. 이는 한부모 아버지들이 구체적인 양육 현장 경험을 통해 과거 경험을 성찰하고, 현재의 새로운 상황에 대입하고 적용함으로써 긍정적이고 생산적인 결과를 가져올 수 있는 미래의 삶에 자신들의 경험을 연결하는 경험학습의 의미를 나타냈다. 즉, 상황과의 끊임없는 상호작용과 삶의 지속적인 과정을 통해 ‘삶이 곧 학습’이라는 평생학습의 관점을 보여주었다. 결론적으로 남성 한부모의 양육과정은 ‘진정한 아버지 되어가기’를 통해 아버지의 정체성을 획득하는 과정이었다. 진정한 아버지가 된다는 것은 자신의 구체적인 양육 현실에서 주도적인 성찰과 실천을 통해 기대되는 부모의 역할을 감당하는 존재로서의 변화 과정을 의미하였다. 여기에서 경험학습의 본질은 상처와 고통 속에서도 아이와 더불어 어려움을 견디고 성장하여 ‘친구 같은 아버지’가 되어가는 바람직한 아버지의 성숙 과정이었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning of experiential learning through the parenting process of divorced, single-parent fathers. The specific research questions are as follows. First, what is the parenting process for a divorced, single father? Second, how do divorced single-parent fathers experientially learn through the parenting process? To explore these questions, I conducted ‘generic qualitative research’ on seven men who became single-parent fathers after divorce. The results of this study revealed 16 categories that were divided into 4 areas: “the father dedicating his life for his child,” “the father’s tears displaying his crying heart,” “the father's strength to endure the weight of his world,” and “the father who considers his child his whole world reaping the rewards of happiness and hope.” These results showcase experiential learning for the single-parent fathers, in which they reflect on their past experiences and apply those lessons to new parenting situations in the present, ultimately giving hope to an optimistic and productive future. Moreover, this study demonstrated the importance of engaging with difficult situations and adapting to an unpredictable life, emphasizing the perspective that ‘life itself is learning.’ In conclusion, experiential learning for these divorced single-parent fathers culminated in the discovery of their parental identities by 'becoming an authentic father.' Authenticity refers to the process of coming to terms with the reality that they must embrace the expected role of a parent, which only develops after much reflection and practice. Therefore, this study distilled the concept of experiential learning as the maturing process of the father, who ultimately developed a friend-like relationship with his child after experiencing and enduring hardships together.
