고구려의 동해안 방면 교통로와 물류 유통

국문 초록

본고는 고구려 왕도로부터 내륙 산간 지대를 통과하여 두만강 하류 및 嶺東 지역으로 나아가는 교통로를 검토한 것이다. 본문에서는 먼저 국내성 시기 東沃沮·北沃沮 방면 교통로를 살펴본 다음, 평양천도 이후 교통로의 변화에 따라 이들 지역의 물산이 다시 평양 지역으로 운반되는 경로를 추정해보았다. 국내성 시기 고구려의 東沃沮 방면 교통로는 江界 지역을 중심으로 그 동쪽의 牙得嶺과 동남쪽의 雪寒嶺을 넘는 것으로 시작한다. 특히 이 경로는 將子江[禿魯江]·長津江 수운 및 천변 교통로를 중심으로 형성되었다고 볼 수 있는데, 대체로 江界 → 牙得嶺·雪寒嶺 → 長津 → 黃草嶺 → 함흥으로 나아가는 경로가 상정된다. 北沃沮 방면 교통로의 경우에는 여러 선행 연구에서 지적한 대로 백두산을 중심으로 남로와 북로가 형성된 것으로 보이는데, 이 일대에 대한 고구려의 진출 과정을 통해 볼 때 백두산 북로보다 남로가 먼저 형성·운용되었던 것으로 판단된다. 이후 북옥저 일대에 대한 고구려의 장악력이 강화되면서 점차 백두산 북로의 운용이 활성화되었고, 이것은 훗날 발해 시대의 鴨綠道로 운용된다. 끝으로 鴨綠江과 장진강을 중심으로 형성된 내륙 수운 교통이 평양천도 이후 어떻게 변화해 나갔는지에 대해서도 간단하게나마 살펴보았다. 그 결과 평양천도 이후 嶺東 지역의 물산을 왕도로 운반하는 과정에서 압록강 수운의 비중이 줄어드는 반면, 한반도 북중부를 가로지르는 대동강의 수운 교통의 활용도가 증가하였던 것으로 이해하였다. 특히 嶺東 지역의 물산을 평양 지역으로 운반할 때에는 원산 일대로부터 馬息嶺을 넘어 陽德-成川 경로를 따라 서진하거나 劍山嶺을 넘어 寧遠-孟山으로 나아가 대동강 수운을 통해 평양 지역으로 들어가는 교통로가 이용되었을 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

Much of the territory of Goguryeo is caught between rugged mountain terrains. The process of Goguryeo expanding its territory in all directions was like a process of overcoming these rugged mountain terrains. Goguryeo supervised the local products of each region and concentrated them to the capital. This study was conducted to observe how Goguryeo overcame the mountain terrains within its territory and transported local products to the center. In particular, it examined paths within the territory of Goguryeo that moved from the center to the northeast and southeast. In other words, this study conducted examinations of the development and management of inland routes that moved from the capital of Goguryeo to the lower reaches of the Tumen River and the Youngdong region. First, it focused on water transportation routes that spread centrally from the Jangja River and Jangjin River in the process of examining transportation routes in the direction of East Okjeo. Also, with regard to transportation routes in the direction of North Okjeo, examinations were made of transportation routes that spread to the north and south of Baekdu Mountain. Lastly, it observed aspects in which the inland water transportation of Goguryeo changed after the capital was moved to Pyeongyang and it seems that from that point on, Goguryeo would have transported the local products of the Youngdong region to the capital region of Pyeongyang through the water transportation routes of the Daedong River and Cheongcheon River.
