국문 초록

문법화는 언어의 통시적 변화나 공시적인 변이를 바라보는 하나의 접근법이다. 본고에서는 문법화의 관점에서 국어의 수 관련어들을 자세하게 관찰하였다. 본고에서 중요하게 논의한 것은 다음 몇 가지이다. 첫째, 수사에서 수 관형사로의 변화는 문법화 중에서 탈범주화의 관점에서 논의할 수 있었다. 둘째, 기수사에서 서수사를 형성하는 과정은 문법화 중에서 어휘성의 연속 변이로 논의할 수 있었다. 셋째, 한자어 수 관련어들이 우리말에 도입되면서 고유어 수 관련어들은 사용역의 축소나 분포의 축소를 보이는데, 이는 문법화로 보기는 어려워도 분포가 축소되는 다양한 양상은 문법화 이론을 포함한 통시적인 언어 변화를 확장하여 전개하기 위한 하나의 실마리를 제공해 줄 수 있을 것으로 생각되었다. 넷째, 일수를 나타내는 어휘들 역시 문법화 중에서 어휘성의 연속 변이와 어휘화, 유추적 평준화의 관점에서 다룰 수 있었다. 본고에서는 논의 과정에서 문법화 이론에만 기대기보다는 국어 자료를 중요하게 다루었다. 이를 통해 국어의 수 표현에 대한 인식을 새롭게 하기도 했으며, 문법화 이론을 포함한 언어의 통시적인 변화를 포괄적으로 다루기 위한 이론의 발전에 기여하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

Grammaticalization is an approach to look at diachronic changes or synchronic variations of language. In this paper, number-related vocabularies of Korean language were observed in detail from the viewpoint of grammaticalization. What were importantly discussed in this paper are the following several points. First, changes from numerals to numeric determinatives could be discussed from the viewpoint of decategorialization out of grammaticalization. Second, the process through which ordinal numerals are formed from cardinal numerals could be discussed as continuous variations in lexicality out of grammaticalization. Third, as Sino-Korean word number related vocabularies were introduced into Korean language, native word number related vocabularies show a reduction in the register or distribution, and it could be treated as a phenomenon related to grammaticalization in a broad sense. Fourth, vocabularies representing the number of days could also be dealt with in terms of continuous variations in lexicality, lexicalization, and analogical equalization out of grammaticalization. In this paper, in the course of the discussion, the Korean language materials were more importantly dealt with rather than relying solely on the grammaticalization theory. Through the foregoing, the recognition of number expression in Korean language was renewed, and the extension of the grammaticalization theory was expanded with a view to contributing to the development of a theory equipped with a solid foundation.
