창세신화 간 매개적 서사로서 <셍굿> 연구

국문 초록

본고에서는 창세신화 <셍굿>의 서사적 특성에 관한 검토를 통해 이것이 북부 지역과 제주 지역 창세신화 간 매개적 성격의 서사임을 말하고, 이로써 <셍굿>의 서사적 위상과 의미를 재정립하고자 하였다. 우주 창조의 국면, 인세 차지 경쟁의 국면, 장자 징치담의 삽입 여부 등 서사적 공통 요소 및 서사적 배치를 기준으로 북부 지역의 창세신화, <셍굿>, 제주 지역의 창세신화를 견주어 보았다. 우주 창조의 국면을 살펴볼 때, 김쌍돌이 본 <창세가>에는 우주 창조의 과정이 구체적으로 형상화되었고 제주 지역 창세신화에서는 그 형상화가 비교적 뚜렷하지 않았다. <셍굿>의 경우 일부 창세의 과정은 모호화되었고 석가가 창세의 작업을 수행함을 확인할 수 있었다. 인세 차지 경쟁의 국면에 있어 김쌍돌이 본 <창세가>에서는 ‘미륵’에게 당위성을 드러내었고, 제주 지역의 창세신화에서 가치 판단의 대상이 되기 어려운 ‘천신(天神)’으로 형상화하였다. 이에 비할 때, <셍굿>에서는 ‘석가’에게 당위와 긍정을 부여하고 있었다. 수명장자 징치담의 삽입 여부에 대하여서 김쌍돌이 본 <창세가>에는 장자 징치담이 없고, 구질서가 새질서에 대하여 저항한 바가 흔적으로 남아 있는 것에 비해 제주 지역 창세신화에서는 수명장자 징치담이 뚜렷하고 전체 서사와 구조적, 내용적으로 유기적 관계를 맺고 있었다. <셍굿>에서는 창세신화 외에 장자못형 설화가 삽입되어 있고 창세신화 안에는 구질서의 저항과 이에 대한 석가의 대응과 지혜가 비교적 상세하게 드러내고 있었다. 이러한 사항들을 살펴보았을 때 <셍굿>은 김쌍돌이 본과 제주 지역 창세신화 간 매개적 서사로 자리할 수 있게 된다. <셍굿>은 서술적 측면에서 창세의 순간에 대해 비교적 교술화된 서술 방식을 보이고 있다. 논리적 측면에서는 <창세가>와 달리 문명에 대한 관심을 긍정하여 지혜, 농경, 문화의 힘에 우호적인 서술을 보인다. 이렇게 <셍굿>은 북부의 창세적 가치의 강조와 제주의 윤리적 가치의 강조 사이 문명에 대한 관심과 긍정으로 각 신화가 내세우는 논리의 간극을 교술적인 성격의 기술과 유연한 서사의 방식을 교차하는 것으로 매개한다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study examines the narrative characteristics of the creation myth , which mediates the northern region‘s and the Jeju local creation myth and intends to promote a comprehensive understanding of . , , and the creation myth of the Jeju region were compared based on common narrative elements and narrative arrangements such as the phase of creation of the universe, the phase of competition for royalties, and the insertion of the story of the Jangja punishment. When examining the phase of the creation of the universe, the process of creation of the universe was concretely embodied in , as seen by Kim Ssang-dol, and the imagery was relatively inconspicuous in the creation myth of the Jeju region. In the case of , a part of the creation process was simplified, and it was confirmed that Sakyamuni performed the creation work. In the context of the competition for royalties, Kim Ssang-dol s showed the justification for Maitreya and in the creation myth of the Jeju region, the absolute god who cannot be judged by value. Compared to this, in , the right and affirmation were given to the Sakyamuni. Regarding the insertion of the story of the Jangja punishment, there is no such story in that Kim Ssang-dol saw, and the resistance of the old order against the new order remains. In contrast, in the creation myth of the Jeju region, the story of the Jangja punishment was distinct and was linked to the overall narrative, structure, and content. In , the “Jangja-pond tale” is inserted in addition to the creation myth, and within the creation myth, the resistance of the old order and the response and wisdom of Sakyamuni are revealed in detail. Considering these factors, can be positioned as a mediating narrative between Kim Ssang-dol and the creation myth of the Jeju region. shows a comparatively idealized narrative method about the moment of creation in the narrative aspect. In the logical aspect, unlike , it affirms interest in civilization and shows a favorable description of wisdom, agriculture, and the power of culture. In this way, can be said to mediate the gap between the logic of each myth in a way that intersects the idealistic and flexible narratives.
