베트남 결혼이주여성의 검정고시 학습경험에 관한 생애사 연구*

국문 초록

본 연구는 베트남 결혼이주여성들의 검정고시 학습경험을 이해하고, 이들이 들려준 삶의 이야기 속에서 발현된 학습경험의 의미를 밝히기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 검정고시를 통해 초등학력을 취득한 베트남 결혼이주여성 4인을 대상으로 Schütze(1983)의 생애사 이야기식 인터뷰를 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 결혼이주여성들의 베트남에서의 학습경험은 “어쩔 수 없이 중단하게 된 학업에 대한 아쉬움과 후회”, “까다로운 졸업조건과 부족(tribe)에 따라 차등 지급된 교육비”, “집보다 더 좋았던 학교생활”로 드러났다. 이들은 본국에서 하지 못했던 공부에 대한 갈망을 풀고, 현재 당면한 자녀 학습지도 등의 어려움을 해결하고, 구직 등 미래를 대비하기 위해서 검정고시 공부를 시작하였다. 검정고시 준비과정에서 베트남 결혼이주여성들은 “자신과의 끝없는 싸움”과 “의도하지 않았던 긍정적인 변화”를 경험하였다. 이들에게 있어 학력취득은 “긍정적인 자아상과 주체적인 삶 구축에 토대가 된 성장과 변화”의 생애사적 의미를 갖는다. 연구 결과를 토대로 본 연구에서는 결혼이주여성들의 학습지원 및 역량강화를 위한 함의를 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study was performed to understand learning experiences for school qualifying examinations and identify the meaning of learning experiences reconstructed in the biographical narratives of Vietnamese married immigrant women in South Korea. Researchers took the biographical narrative interviews(Schütze, 1983) with 4 Vietnamese married immigrant women. They have gotten a primary school qualification and have prepared it at the Multicultural Family Support Center. This data was analyzed by the four steps of Schütze(1984). The following is research findings. Vietnamese married immigrant women have regretted that they had to give up their studies because of financial difficulties in Vietnam. They informed Vietnamese schools had rigorous regulations to graduate and were differently granted by the government according to their tribes. They preferred going to school over staying at home when they were younger. In Korea, they started preparing for school qualifying examinations to satisfy their desire for the education they could not complete in their homeland, overcome difficulties which they have experienced while helping their children in studies, and achieve education careers needed for their future jobs. From the process of learning, they experienced unexpected positive changes although they had to be fighting themselves. The school qualifications, which Vietnamese immigrant women achieved, helped them to foster positive self-image and live an independent life so that they could make significant growths and changes in their biographical contexts. This research meaningfully, presented the practical suggestions to support Vietnamese married immigrant women’s learning and empower them.
