레지오 에밀리아의 교육 실천에서 드러나는 사진의 특성 고찰: Barthes의 사진의 본질에 관한 이해를 기반으로

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 Barthes의 시각을 통해 사진의 본질을 이해하고, 이를 레지오 에밀리아의 교육실천에 핵심 교육 원리인 ‘귀 기울임의 페다고지’와 ‘기록작업’과 연결 지어 봄으로써 유아교육기관에서 사진을 활용함에 있어 어떠한 교육자의 태도와 실천이 요구되는지 고찰하는 것이다. 이를 위해 Barthes의 사진 관련 대표 저서 1차 문헌과 레지오의 교육자들이 저술한 문헌 중 사진 관련 내용 중심으로 탐색하였다. Barthes에 따르면, 사진의 본질은 ‘그것이-존재-했었음(That-Has-Been)’으로 사진 자체는 의미를 전달하지 않기 때문에 의미를 전달하기 위해서는 성찰과 같은 이차적 행위가 필요하다. 이와 같은 사진의 본질은 경청과 기록작업이라는 레지오의 핵심 교육 원리이자 교육 실천에 반영되어 있었다. 또한 레지오의 교육자들도 Barthes가 시사한 바와 같이 정해진 절차대로 따라하면 교육적으로 의미 있는 사진을 찍을 수 있도록 정리된 메뉴얼은 있을 수 없음을 이야기하였다. 이러한 고찰을 바탕으로 본 연구는 학부모와 나누어야 할 것은 사진 자체가 아니라 디테일이 담긴 사진과 사진에 관한 교육적 해석이 더해진 기록화이며, 사진 관련 예비유아 교사교육 혹은 재교육에서 주목해야 점은 어떻게 하면 사진을 잘 찍을 수 있는가와 같은 기교나 지각적인 측면이 아닌 해석의 나눔이 되어야 할 것이고, 사진을 찍고 그 의미를 나눔에 있어 유아들 역시 존재해야 함을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to understand the essence and characteristics of photography through Barthes perspective, who attempted to explore the nature of photography and examine which early childhood teachers attitudes and practices are required in using a photograph in early childhood education institutions. This study connects Barth’s perspective to Reggio Emilia’s educational practice with ‘the pedagogy of listening’ and ‘documenting’ that are their core educational principles. To this end, Barthe s representative book on photography and the literature written by Reggio s educators focused on photo-related contents are reviewed. According to Barthes, the essence of photography is “That-Has-Been,” which does not convey meaning in itself, requiring secondary actions such as reflection to convey meaning. This was reflected in Reggio s core educational principles and pedagogical practices, such as the pedagogy of listening and documentation. In addition, as Barthes suggested, Reggio s educators stated if one were to follow prescribed procedure, it would not be possible to organize a manual to take meaningful pictures educationally. Based on these considerations, this study discusses that what early childhood teachers need to share with parents is not the photos themselves, but detailed photos and documentation with an educational interpretation provided with them. Furthermore, early childhood teacher education should be sharing interpretations of photographs rather than techniques.
