게슈탈트 심리치료와 위빠사나 선(禪)의 상보성(相補性)

국문 초록

이 논문은 서양의 대표적인 심리치료기법인 게슈탈트 심리치료(Gestalt therapy) 와 근본불교 계통의 선 수행법인 ‘위빠사나(Vipassana)’의 특성을 비교하고, 상호 보완 가능성을 검토 제시하고자 하는 목적으로 작성되었다. 게슈탈트 치료는 창안당시부터 선(禪)의 영향을 받은 것으로 평가되었다. 그러나 그동안 게슈탈트 치료에 선(禪)이 어떤 측면에서 영향을 주었는지, 선과 게슈탈트 치료와의 공통점/차이점이 무엇인지에 대한 체계적인 연구가 시도되지 못했다. 따라서 이 논문에서는 게슈탈트 치료와 위빠사나의 공통주제어 ‘알아차림’을 통해서 양자가 어떠한 측면에서 비교될 수 있는지를 알아보고, 치료로서의 게슈탈트와 수행으로서 위빠사나라고 하는 두 이론실행체계간의 상호보완점을 이론과 방법론적 측면에서 탐색하고자 하는 목적에서 기술되었다.

영문 초록

This article aims to pursue complementary issues which is confronted with in the theory and practice of Gestalt psychology and Vipassana by comparison with a key concepts of Gestalt psychology s awareness and the Vipassana s sati . The awareness and the sati are the similar concepts which involved same meaning notwithstanding conceptual using in different context. At this point we can find the comparative conditions between two conceptsThere are the similarities which can be compared with the sati and awareness in the variety of dimension in conceptual using, for example, the traits of complementation, confronting, presence(now &here), catharsis, insight. Also, there are many differences between the two concepts, for example, Adaptation vs Nibanna , Gestalt vs Sampajana(right understanding) , Self vs Non-self , Therapy and Buddhistic Training . By compare the sati and the awareness we can find a complementary issues between the sati and the awareness which can be fully developed in the theory and practice of Gestalt psychology as a therapy and Vipassana as a Buddhistic training
