국문 초록

오늘날 한국 사회에서 종교교육의 중요성에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 공교육으로서의 종교교육은 건전한 시민교육의 일환으로서 종교문화교육을 지향하고 있다. 하지만, 한국의 중등학교에서 이루어지고 있는 종교교육은 여전히 호교론적 신앙교육의 성격을 강하게 드러내고 있다. 이 글의 목적은 한국 중등학교 종교교육의 이와 같은 실정을 분석ㆍ고찰하는 한편, 정리된 내용을 토대로 종교교육의 바람직한 진로를 모색하려는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 몇 가지 구체적인 분석을 실시하였다. 첫째, <제7차 교육과정>이 적용된 종교교과서의 현황을 분석하였다. 둘째, 최근의 <2007년 제7차 교육과정 일부 개정> 내용을 검토하는 한편, 그러한 검토 내용을 토대로 종교교과서의 미래적 방향을 모색해 보았다. <제7차 교육과정>에서는 종교교육이 지니는 ‘종교문화교육’으로서의 성격이 더욱 강조되었다. 여기에 더해, <2007년 제7차 교육과정 일부 개정>에서는 ‘생활 속의 종교’, ‘종교를 통해 삶의 의미 찾기’의 방향을 더욱 구체화시키려 했다. 그럼에도 불구하고, <제7차 교육과정>과 <2007년 제7차 교육과정 일부 개정>에서 여전히 신앙교육의 측면도 함께 배려되고 있다. 이러한 이중적인 상황은 공교육으로서의 종교교육의 정체성을 완전하게 보장하지 못하는 현실적 요인이 되고 있다. 필자는 이 논문에서의 논의를 토대로 몇 가지 제안을 하였다. 첫째, 공교육으로서의 ‘종교문화교육’과 ‘종단교육’을 일관성 없이 하나로 엮기보다는, 각각의 전문성을 살리는 연합 프로젝트로서의 종교교과서 만들기를 하자는 것이다. 둘째, 공교육으로서의 종교교육의육의 취지에 걸맞은 대안 종교교과서를 여러 주체들이 힘을 합해 만들어보자는 것이다. 한국종교교육학회가 그 주체가 될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Concern for the importance of religious education is getting heightening in Korean society these days. Religious education as public education aims at religious-cultural education as a part of healthy civic education. However, religious education of secondary school of Korea is still strongly tinged with faith education as apologetics. The purpose of this essay is to search for desirable path of religious education on the basis of already arranged content, while analyzing and considering this current condition of religious education at Korean secondary schools. I suggest some concrete cases for this analysis. First, I analyzed the current situation of textbooks of ‘religion’ applying . Second, I examined the content of and tried to find a future direction of the textbooks on the basis of the content above. The character as ‘religious-cultural education’ of religious education is emphasized in . In addition, tried to take concrete shape of “religion in one’s daily routine”, “finding meaning of life through religion”. Despite, the aspect of faith education is also focused in and . This twofold situation is a practical cause not to guarantee completely the identity of religious education as public education. I submitted some proposals on the basis of this discussion in this essay. First, we’d rather make texts of ‘religion’ as combined project to encourage specialty of all concerned than put together ‘religious-cultural education’ as public education and ‘denominational education’ without consistency. Second, I ask all subjects concerned with this issue to cooperate for making textbooks of ‘religion’ to satisfy the intent of religious education. I think Korean Association for Religious Education will be an adequate main force for this project.
