생명윤리와 개신교의 종교교육

국문 초록

본고는 학교에서 종교 교육시에 개신교의 생명윤리 교육을 어떻게 할 것인지에 대하여 개신교 생명 윤리학의 관점에서 논의하였다. 이때, 개신교내에 다양한 신학적 입장이 있음을 고려하여, 본고는 개신교적 입장을 칼빈주의 신학으로 제한하여 서술하였다. 특별히, 생명 윤리 상황에 적용하기 위한 칼빈주의신학의 주요 요소로서, 본고는 절대적 주권자로서의 하나님과, 성서의 권위와, 인간의 전적 타락과 예수 그리스도의 유일성을 선택 및 주장하였다. 이러한 신학에 바탕을 두어, 개신교는 성서 자체에서 생명에 대한 규범과 당위성을 발견하며, 하나님과의 관계성 속에서 자연과 인간에 대한 생명의 의미와 존엄성의 근거를 깨닫게 되고, 예수 그리스도의 성육신과 구원사역을 통해 인간의 존엄성과 생명에 대한 새로운 이해를 얻게 된다. 이러한 개신교의 이해속에서 생명 윤리적 이슈에 적용 가능한 보편 원리로는 십자가에서 드러난 예수 그리스도의 사랑을 제시할 수 있다. 이때, 생명 윤리적 상황에 예수 그리스도의 사랑을 적용시에는 해석의 다양성 문제와 보편화 과정속의 개신교의 정체성 문제가 제기될 수 있는데, 이는 교회 안에서의 개인이 세상에 나아가 청지기적 삶을 살아가는 과정 속에서, 개신교 신앙과 성서에 대한 교제 속으로 세상을 초대하고 이러한 교제를 지속적으로 이어감으로써 이러한 문제를 해결할 새로운 대안을 발견할 수 있을 것이다. 이를 위하여, 개신교의 생명 윤리 교육은 본 논문에서 제시한 개신교 생명윤리적 교육 목적을 보다 명확히 설정하고, 그 목적에 따르는 효과적 교육 방법을 개발해야할 필요가 있다. 이러한 개신교 생명윤리 교육은 학교 현장의 학생들 뿐만 아니라, 세속적이고 물질적 가치관에 의해 생명 경시풍조가 만연하게 된 한국 사회의 변화와 발전에 기여할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This essay explores the issues in the Protestant bioethics education in religious schools. In considerations of various theological positions in the Protestantism, the term, Protestantism, is limited to the Calvinist theology in this paper. Especially, some major characteristics of the Calvinist theologies are selected for the applications to the bioethical situations, which are the ideas of sovereign God, the authority of the Bible, and total depravity of human beings and Jesus Christ as the only way to salvation. Based on this theology, the Protestantism finds the norms and duties for life in the Bible, the meanings of life in nature and the dignity of human beings in relation to God, and new understandings of human dignity and life through the incarnation and salvific works of Jesus Christ. Through these Protestant understandings, the principle that may be universally applicable to various bioethical issues and education fields is to be the love of Jesus Christ on the cross. While there may be some problems of the various interpretations and of the identity of Protestantism in the process of universal applications of the principle to bioethical situations in the interactions with the secular world, creative alternatives could be suggested by Christians’ invitations for the world to the fellowship of the Christian faith and the Bible and the continuous fellowships living the life of the stewardship nurtured in the Church and sent to the world. For the alternatives, the Protestant bioethical education should set the clear goals for the bioethical education, and develop effective methods to measure the goals. Such Protestant bioethical education would contribute not only to the religious education of students, but also to the transformation of contemporary Korean society where secularism and materialism are prevalent in negligence of the value and dignity of life.
