유식불교와 베르그손의 무의식 비교연구

국문 초록

물질을 경험하는 의식이 불러일으키는 동질성과 이질성에 대한 논의는 그 자체로 철학의 역사다. 이것은 이원론의문제와 맞닿아 있는데, 당장에 제기되는 물음들은 물질과 의식이 그토록 다르다면 어떻게 만날 수 있으며, 또 그렇게다르지 않다면 어찌 이리 차이가 많이 나는 것처럼 보이는가? 로 모아진다. 제기된 물음을 더욱 구체적으로 만드는 것은 식의 물질성 이나 직접 주어진 것 등으로, 이러한 물음을 의미 있게 하는 일종의 문제적 개념들이다. 논의를 통해 드러난 것은, 이러한 개념이 만들어내는 스펙트럼은 유식불교의 문맥에서 말하는 식 (識)과 베르그손의 문맥에서 말하는 의식 (consciousness)에 대해 차이성보다는 유사성을 더욱 두드러지게 한다는 것이다. 예를 들어, 우리는 이 두 사유가 제기하는 식 과 의식 을 식의 물질성 및 직접 주어진 것 등을 통해 경험이 어떻게 가능한가를 논하는 과정에서 그 유사성을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 그 과정에서 아뢰야식 및 베르그손의 무의식과도 밀접하게 관련되어 있음을 밝혀졌다. 본 논의의 목적은 물질이 의식만큼이나 관념적이고 의식이 물질만큼 실재적이라는 사실로부터, 지금까지 수동적이고 비활성적이라 규정되었던 공간에 생동감을 불어 넣으려는 것이다. 따라서 식의 물질성 의 의미를 분명하게 하는 것이 중요한데, 이를 바탕으로 우주 전체와 함께 직접 주어진 것 의 의미를 밝힐 수 있을 것이다. 이어서 유식불교의 아뢰야식이 베르그손의 무의식 개념과 더불어 새롭게 이해될 수 있음을 설명하는 것은, 경험의 가능성과 존재의 근원에 대한 논의로 나아갈 수 있음을 보여준다. 결과적으로 공간은 수동적이고 정적일 뿐이라는 우리의 상식은 전복되고, 생동하는 무의식과 더불어 우주 전체인 공간은 창조의 공간임이 드러나게 될 것이다.

영문 초록

The discussion of homogeneity and heterogeneity aroused by the consciousness of experiencing matter is itself a history of philosophy. This is in line with the problem of dualism, and the questions that are raised right now are concentrated as “How can we meet if matter and consciousness are so different, and how does it seem to make a lot of difference if not so different?” What makes the question raised more specifically is ‘the materiality of perception(or consciousness)’ or ‘the directly given’, and is a kind of problematic concepts that make this question meaningful. What was revealed through the discussion is that the spectrum created by these concepts makes the similarity more pronounced than the difference between the ‘vijñãna(識)’ in the context of Vijñapti-mātra buddhism and the ‘consciousness’ in the context of Bergson. For example, we were able to confirm the similarity in the process of discussing how ‘experience’ is possible through ‘the materiality of perception(or consciousness)’ and ‘the directly given’ of ‘vijñãna’ and ‘consciousness’ raised by these two thoughts. It was also found that in the process, it was closely related to the alaya-vijñãna and the unconsciousness of Bergson. The purpose of this discussion is to invigorate the space that has so far been defined as passive and inactive, from the fact that matter is as conceptual as consciousness and consciousness is as real as matter. Therefore, it is important to clarify the meaning of ‘the materiality of perception(or consciousness)’. Based on this, it will be possible to reveal the meaning of ‘the directly given’ along with the entire universe. Subsequently, explaining that the alaya-vijñãna of Vijñapti-mātra buddhism can be newly understood in addition to Bergson’s concept of unconsciousness shows that the possibility of experience and the source of existence can be discussed. As a result, our common sense that space is only passive and static will be overturned, and it will be revealed that the space as a whole is a space of creation, with a lively unconscious.
