도덕과 교육과정의 실천성 보완을 위한 방안 모색: ｢성학십도｣와 ｢성학집요｣의 수양 체계를 중심으로

국문 초록

이 논문은 현재 도덕 교육과정의 실천성 향상 방안을 ｢성학십도｣와 ｢성학집요｣의 수양론 체계를 중심으로 검토함으로써 향후 교육과정 개정 시에 참고자료가 될 수 있도록 하기 위해 작성되었다. 현재 교육과정에서는 ‘도덕함’을 도덕적 탐구, 윤리적 성찰, 실천 과정을 포괄하는 개념으로 제시하면서 도덕 교과의 실천성을 높이고자 하였으나, 용어의 모호성, 불필요성뿐만 아니라 교육과정에서 ‘도덕함’의 취지가 명확히 반영되지 않고 있다는 문제도 있다. 유교 윤리의 ‘수양론’ 체계를 검토하여 교육과정에 적용하면 도덕 교과의 실천성 향상에 도움이 될 수 있다. ‘도덕함’의 핵심 요소인 탐구, 성찰, 실천이 유교윤리의 수양론 체계와 정확히 일치하기 때문이다. 특히 퇴계 이황의 ｢성학십도｣와 율곡 이이의 ｢성학집요｣는 탐구, 성찰, 실천의 내용과 방법이 잘 구조화 되어 있다. ｢성학십도｣의 제1도~제5도를 활용하여 존재에 대한 이해와 성찰을 바탕으로 도덕적 수양을 통한 인격 완성과 이상사회 실현, 개인과 사회의 도덕 실천 방안을 제시할 수 있다. 제6도~제10도를 활용해서는 본성과 마음, 감정에 대한 탐구와 이해를 바탕으로 공감, 배려의 자세 함양 및 시간과 장소에 따른 구체적 실천 방안을 제시할 수 있다. 그리고 자기 이해, 타인 이해, 공감과 배려, 일상에서의 도덕 실천이 체계적으로 제시된 ｢성학십도｣의 수양론 구조를 사용한 교과 구성을 생각해 볼 수 있다. 현대 사회의 윤리적 문제에 대해 개인, 가정, 공동체로 범위를 넓혀가며 성찰하는 ｢성학집요｣의 수양론 구조를 활용하는 것도 교과의 실천성을 향상하기 위한 좋은 방법이며, 완성된 인간을 향한 의지 고양과 자세 확립을 위해 ｢성학집요｣에서 강조한 ‘입지(立志)’를 교육과정에 적용하면 도덕적 인간이 되고자 하는 내적 동력을 배양하는 데에 도움이 될 것이다｢성학십도｣와 ｢성학집요｣의 구체적인 내용은 중학교, 고등학교 교육과정 수준에서는 생소하고 교사들도 가르치기 어려우므로 도덕적 탐구와 성찰, 실천의 측면에서 두 책의 구조와 취지, 실천 방법을 활용한다면 현행 교육과정이 ‘도덕함’을 통해 추구하고자 하였던 도덕 교과의 실천성 향상의 목적을 달성함에 도움이 될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Currently, the ethics curriculum presents “doing ethics” as a concept that encompasses moral exploration, ethical reflection, and practical processes, increasing the practicality of ethics teaching. However, the question arises whether “doing ethics”, which encompasses moral exploration, reflection and practice, is a necessary concept. It is better to use it separately by exploration, reflection, and practice instead of ‘doing ethics’. There is also a problem that the purpose of “doing ethics” is not clearly reflected in the education process as well as the ambiguity and needlessness of terms. Considering the purpose of the introduction of ‘doing ethics’, practice must be further supplemented to achieve the goals of ethics teaching. So how can we compensate for this problem of practice? The present writer suggest that a way to review the ‘self-cultivation theory’ system of Confucian ethics and apply it to the curriculum could be a way. This is because exploration, reflection, and practice, which are key elements of “doing ethics”, are exactly in line with the system of Confucian ethics. In particular, Ten Diagrams on Sage Learning by Toegye Yi-hwang and The Essentials of Sage Learning by Yulgok Yi-yi are well-structured in terms of exploration, reflection, and practice. Specific details of Ten Diagrams on Sage Learning and The Essentials of Sage Learning can be difficult at middle and high school curriculum levels. Therefore, it would be better to use the structure, purpose, and practice of the two books in terms of moral exploration, reflection, and practice, not specific contents. This will help to achieve the goal of improving the practicality of ethical teaching that was sought through ‘doing ethics’ in the course of education. In the middle school curriculum, we consider the composition of the curriculum using the Ten Diagrams on Sage Learning systematically presented with self-understanding, understanding others, empathy and consideration, and moral practice in a daily life. The use of the foster structure of The Essentials of Sagely Learning, which expands the scope of ethical issues in modern society to individuals, families, and communities, can also help improve the practice of moral teaching.
