비대면 온라인 수업 속 인간과 기계의 얽힘의 이야기: 신유물론적 관점에서의 이해

국문 초록

인간과 기계가 함께 이끌어 가는 코로나19 시대의 교육 상황에서는 인간과 첨단 기계를 포함한 비인간 존재들 간의 공생에 관한 사유가 필요하다. 이 연구의 목적은 비대면 온라인 수업이 불가피해진 최근의 교육 맥락에서, 인간과 비인간 기계의 연결과 얽힘을 포착하고, 이를 신유물론적 관점에서 이해해 보려는 것이다. 이를 위해 이 연구에서는 비대면 온라인 수업을 경험한 학생들의 사례를 통해 인간과 비인간 기계가 어떻게 얽혀있으며, 서로 어떤 영향을 주고받는지를 탐색했다. 연구 결과에 따르면, 온라인 수업 장면에서 인간과 기계의 얽힘의 양상은 어셈블리지를 구성하는 물질들의 영향에 따라 다양하게 나타났고, 이는 매순간 변화하였다. 다양한 얽힘 속에서 인간과 기계는 끊임없이 ‘하기’와 ‘되기’의 상태에 번갈아 놓였으며, 이들의 학습 공간은 여러 물질들 사이를 흐르는 다양한 감응이 지배하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 인간과 기계 그리고 이들을 둘러싼 물질이 부단히 얽히는 과정에서 학생들의 배움은 우연적이고 즉흥적으로 이루어지기도 했다. 연구 결과를 토대로, 교육 장면에서 기계를 포함한 다른 많은 비인간적 요소들과 인간이 얽히는 양상에 대한 연구의 활성화가 제안되었다.

영문 초록

Educational circumstance of COVID-19 requires deep reasoning of humans’ co-existence with non-human beings including high-tech machines. The purpose of this study is to capture the entanglement of humans and machines in the process of online classes and then, to understand the entanglement from the perspective of new materialism. For this purpose, this study conducts research on actual cases of online classes, and explores how humans and machines entangle and interact with each other. The results show that aspects of entanglement vary every moment depending on the influences of the materials which constitute the assemblages. Under this entanglement, humans and machines constantly alternate between ‘doing’ and ‘becoming’, and in the face of various materials, the learning spaces are found to be dominated by various affects. In addition, in the process of intertwining humans, machines, and the materials surrounding them, students learn something accidentally and spontaneously at times. Based on the results, this study suggests active discussions and researches of the entanglement between human beings and non-human beings in the field of education.
