국문 초록

본 논문의 목적은 플라톤의 대화편 「파이드로스」에 나타난 에로스를 ‘자기 망각’으로 해석하고 그 교육학적 시사점을 도출하는 것에 있다. 에로스에는 표면상 두 가지 모순된 측면이 들어 있는 것으로 보인다. 한 가지는 천상의 아름다움에 집중하느라 지상의 것들에 무관심해지는 상태이고, 다른 하나는 지상의 것들에 대한 최상의 관심을 갖는 상태이다. 이 두 가지 측면의 모순은 자기 망각의 개념에 비추어 보면 해소될 수 있다. 자기 망각은 자신의 쾌락 충족을 의식하는 자아, 즉 자기 의식과 대비된다. 자기 망각은 자기 의식으로부터 해방됨으로써 애인을 수단이 아닌 가능성으로 인식하고 애인에 대한 교육을 통하여 실재를 향한 애자의 열망을 실현시킨다. 자기 망각에 비추어 보면 지상의 것들에 대한 무관심은 자기 의식으로부터 해방되어 인식의 제한성을 극복하는 것이다. 이것은 지상의 것들의 ‘좋음’을 실현시킨다는 점에서 최상의 관심과 다르지 않다. 학습자는 교사로부터 자기 망각을 배우고 교사는 학습자를 ‘가능성’으로 인식함으로써 학습자로 하여금 덕을 갖추도록 조력한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to interpret Eros as ‘self forgetfulness’, and to derive an implication on the concept of learning and teaching. In Plato’s dialogue Phaedrus, the sense of Eros seems to have two contradictory aspects. The former is the indifferent attitude to things on the earth, latter is the supreme attention to those things in the light of true beauty, the reality of beauty. The contradiction is to be resolved in terms of ‘the self-forgetfulness’, which is contrasted with the self-consciousness. Self-consciousness represents the state of mind focused on gratifying of pleasure. Self-forgetfulness is the state of mind which is free from the self-consciousness, recognizing the loved not as the means but a possibility. The lover in self-forgetfulness is able to realize one’s desire for true beauty by helping the lover to acquire virtues in her or his life. In consideration of self-forgetfulness, the indifference of things on earth is overwhelmed by the desire for Reality, being free from self-consciousness. The indifference is the same as the supreme attention to realization of good in the things on earth. The learner as the loved, acquires the self-forgetfulness from teacher as the lover by learning subjects.
