국문 초록

오늘날 가장 큰 위기 중의 하나는 생태계의 위기이다. 이러한 위기를 극복하는 방안들이 강구 중에 있는데 그 중의 하나가 생태교육이다. 생태교육은 이를 뒷받침할만한 사상적 근거가 필요하다. 본고에서는 중세의 신비가이며 사상가인 빙엔의 힐데가르트의 생태사상을 주목하면서 오늘날의 생태교육에 접목하고자 한다. 그녀의 생태사상은 오늘날에도 많은 관심을 가지고 연구의 대상으로 삼고 있다. 특히 창조중심 생태학과 여성생태주의의 관점에서 많은 연구를 하고 있다. 그녀의 생태사상은 어릴 적부터 영향 받은 베네딕트 수도회의 영성과 그녀가 직접 체험한 신비 사상에서 비롯된 것이다. 이런 사상 중에 주요한 것은 창조중심영성, 통합생태사상 그리고 비리디타스(Viriditas) 사상이다. 이중에서 비리디타스는 학자에 따라 4가지 차원으로 분류하여 설명하고 있다. 즉 문자적 차원, 우의적 차원, 도덕적 차원 그리고 신비적 차원이다. 푸르게 하는 힘 혹은 생명의 힘인 비리디타스는 자연계, 인간, 신 등 지상과 천상에서 모두 발견되는 것이며, 이것이 천상으로부터 흘러나와 지상의 모든 피조물을 푸르게 하고 물기 있게 한다는 것이다. 이에 반대되는 개념이 메마름이다. 생태적 문제는 바로 생기 있고 푸르러야 할 피조계가 메마름을 경험하게 되는 데 있다고 본 것이다. 그러므로 생태계의 위기극복은 다시 피조계에 푸르름이 회복되게 하는 것이다. 생태교육은 이러한 푸르름을 가져오게 하는 방안을 모색하는 것이다. 이러한 방안을 비리디타스의 4차원과 연관하여 살펴본다. 여기에는 자연을 실제로 체험하게 하는 자연중심교육, 영혼과 몸을 동일한 가치로 보는 전인교육, 인간의 책임과 생물의 본래적 권리를 인정하는 생태윤리교육 그리고 비리디타스를 발견하고 표현하는 예술적 접근으로서의 교육이 있다. 생태교육은 이러한 교육들이 단편적으로 이루어지기보다 통합적으로 이루어질 때 보다 효과적임을 밝히고자 한다.

영문 초록

Nowadays, one of our problems is an ecological crisis. I believe that the ecological education will be a good way to overcome it as far as it goes. But it requires for ideological bases in order to achieve the educational efficiency. This paper is to pay attention to the ecological thoughts of Hildegard of Bingen, a medieval woman mystic, and to apply it to several fields of ecological education. Her thoughts, mostly studied from a vantage point of creation-centered spirituality and eco-feminism by scholars at present, were influenced by Benedictine spirituality and had begun after she experienced spiritual visions. Hildegard s main ecological thoughts are creation-centered spirituality, integrated ecological thoughts and viriditas. Among them, viriditas will be classified as four levels, according to scholar s opinions, that is to say, literal, allegorical, topological, and analogical levels respectively. Viriditas(viridity), greening power or force of life, is founded on nature, humankind on earth and God in heaven, flows from heaven to all creatures, and makes them green and provides with moistures, contrary to ariditas(aridity). Ecological problem is that creatures suffer the aridity without meeting the viridity. Therefore, in order to solve ecological problems we need to recover viriditas and nurse all creatures back to greenness. I understand that valuable ecological educations will make them to find desirable means to restore it. That way will be searched with regards to four levels of viriditas. There are several forms of ecological educations - nature ecological education which is experiencing in the nature actually, whole-person education which considers that human soul and body are worth of same value, education of ecological ethics which emphasizing human responsibility for the nature, and education as a artistic approach. Finally, I ll reveal that the ecological education would be efficient if it is practiced by holistic methods.
