<도랑선비·청정각시>에서 청정각시의 감정을 통해 본 신성의 의미

국문 초록

이 논문은 함경도 무속신화 <도랑선비·청정각시>에서 서사를 지배하는 청정각시의 감정을 중심으로 분석하여 서사의 논리를 새롭게 살펴보았다. 그동안 <도랑선비·청정각시> 연구는 청정각시의 과제 수행과 죽음의 의미를 두고 다양한 각도에서 논의되어왔다. 본고는 선행 연구에서 해명하려고 했던 고난과 죽음에 대한 의미를 청정각시의 감정에 주목하여 심층의 의미를 탐색하고자 한다. 그리하여 청정각시에게서 새로운 신의 자질과 면모를 읽어보려는 문제의식에서 출발한다. 서사 전반을 지배하는 청정각시의 감정은 ‘슬픔’과 ‘기쁨’으로 요약할 수 있다. 그런데 이러한 감정 표출은 남성 인물로부터 통제와 억압의 대상이 되어 청정각시를 조종하고자 한다. 청정각시가 자발적으로 수행한 과제와 자결(自決)의 의미를 도랑선비와의 만남을 위한 방편으로 이해한다면 일부종사(一夫從事)를 실천하는 열녀의 이미지를 쉽게 떠올릴 수 있다. 청정각시가 수행하는 고난이 남성 권력의 상징으로 작용할 때, 청정각시의 감정은 통제되고 순종적인 여성으로 이미지가 왜곡된다. 하지만 이는 남성 주체의 관점에서 조작된 것이며, 이러한 이데올로기의 모순을 청정각시의 감정이 함의하는 바를 통해서 확인할 수 있었다. 청정각시가 겪는 고난의 본질적인 원인은 도랑선비의 죽음에 있는 것이 아니라, 만남에 집착하는 애착심에 있다. 이로부터 고난의 여정이 시작되어, 슬픔과 괴로움을 일으키는 사건의 발단이 되는 것을 확인하였다. 마지막에 청정각시가 죽음을 선택하면서 기뻐할 수 있었던 것은 고통의 집착에서 벗어나 청정심(淸淨心)을 찾았다는 깨달음의 감정 표시로 해석할 수 있다. 그리하여 바람직한 여성상, 헌신적 사랑과 희생 프레임에 가리어진 청정각시는 주체적인 인물로 재해석된다. 나아가 신화적 인물의 신성성은 감정의 논리에 따라 새로운 의미를 획득할 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

In this article, Hamgyeong-do shamanistic myths are analyzed according to the emotions of Cheongjeonggaksi, who dominates the narrative, and the logic of the narrative is examined anew. To date, the research on “Dorang Seonbi and Cheongjeonggaksi” has largely been devoted to explaining the meaning of the task and death in the context of the ritual. This article focuses on the feelings of Cheongjeonggaksi regarding the meaning of suffering and death that previous research tried to clarify and attempts to determine the deep meaning of this myth. The feelings of Cheongjeonggaksi, which can be found throughout the narrative, can be summed up as “sadness” and “delight.” However, this expression of emotion is subject to control and oppression from the male characters and is intended to manipulate Cheongjeonggaksi. If one understands the tasks that Cheongjeonggaksi carried out voluntarily and the meaning of killing oneself to meet Dorang Seonbi, one can easily imagine the image of a virtuous woman. However, this was created from a male-dominated perspective, and such ideological contradictions can be confirmed from the perspective of Cheongjeonggaks’s emotions. Nevertheless, the origin of the grief and suffering of Cheongjeonggaksi is not Dorangseonbi’s death. Internal factors caused by obsession are more problematic. It was confirmed that the journey of hardship was started and that it would be the beginning of an incident that caused sadness and suffering. In the end, Cheongjeonggaksi’s delight in choosing death is the realization that the agony is over, free from obsession. This suggests that the death of Cheongjeonggaksi was a release from the bondage of life and a liberation from pain. A female image, devoted love, and sacrifice are reinterpreted as a self-reliant person. The sacredness of mythical characters suggests that emotional logic can gain new meanings.
