김수영 연작시 「꽃잎」의 은유

국문 초록

김수영은 1967년 7월 7일『현대문학』에 연작시「꽃잎 1, 2, 3」을 한 작품으로 발표 했다. 그러나 「꽃잎1」,「꽃잎2」,「꽃잎3」은 각각 다른 날 씌어졌다.「꽃잎1」은 1967년 5월 2일, 「꽃잎2」는 1967년 5월 7일, 「꽃잎3」은 1967년 5월 30일에 썼다. 연작시「꽃잎」에 대한 논자들의 견해는 각자 다르다. 그 중에서 「꽃잎」을 4․19혁 명이나 5․16의 역사에 대한 의미로 보는 연구자들이 많고 ‘꽃잎’의 의미도 하나로 보는 견해가 많다. 하지만 같은 날 한편으로 발표했다고 해서 의미가 같다고 보는 것은 옳지 않다. 역사적 현실들이 각 시마다 은유로 숨어 있기 때문이다. 「꽃잎1」은 1967년 5월 2일에 씌어졌다. 이 날은 제 6대 대통령 선거가 있기 바로 전날이다. 당시의 지식인들과 시인 김수영은 부정만 철저히 막아낸다면 5․16 쿠데타를 일으키고 정권을 잡은 지도자를 몰아낼 수 있다고 확신했다. 그래서 설레기까지 하였다. 김수영의 그 설렘과 희망이 이 시에 담겨있다. 그래서 「꽃잎1」에 나오는 ‘꽃 잎’은 저항이요, 자유요, 희망이라고 할 수 있다. 「꽃잎2」는 5․3 선거가 끝나고 나흘 뒤인 5월 7일에 씌어졌다. 선거의 결과는 시인의 생각과는 다르게 실패로 돌아갔다. 시인은 1연과 2연에 배반과 절망에 이르는 절규를 꽃 (꽃잎)으로 표현했다. 또 3연과 4연에 나오는 노란꽃-꽃(꽃잎)의 의미는 타락, 부패, 부정, 금권만능의 정치풍토에서 뽑힌 지도자로 상징했다. 4연 4행에 나오는 2, 4, 6행의 꽃은 ‘자유’의 의미로 썼다. 마지막 5연의 꽃잎은 ‘양심과 저항’이고 노란 꽃은 ‘지도자’라고 볼 수 있다. 한 시에서 꽃잎의 의미가 여러 가지로 나타나고 있다. 이것은 정권을 바꿀 수 있는 기회인 5․3선거가 기대에 못 미치고 실패하자, 실망한 시인의 절망과 분노가 정신 분열처럼 나타났던 것이다. 「꽃잎3」은 1967년 5월 30일에 씌어졌다. 이 시는 곧 있을 6․8 총선거를 바라보는 시인의 마음이 담겨있다고 할 수 있다. 이미 5․3 선거에서는 한 나라의 지도자를 잘못 뽑았으니 국회의원을 뽑는 6․8총선거에서는 진정으로 국민을 위한 당을 뽑아야 한다고 생각했다. 이것은 한 사람이 아닌 민중들이 바람으로, 풀로, 아우성으로 일어 나야 한다고 생각했다. 그래서 「꽃잎3」은 여름바람, 여름 풀, 하얀 풀의 아우성으로 다시 일어서야 한다는 시인의 마음과 바램이 들어있다고 할 수 있다. 이 시대는 자본의 권력이 거대하게 뿌리내려 온갖 정치권의 말들이 타락한 시대이 다. 또 정치지도자가 자신이 한 말에 책임을 지지 않는 부조리한 시대이다. 김수영이 세상을 떠난 지 60여년이 다가 오는 지금 이 시점에서, 김수영의 시들은 풀처럼 다시 살아나고 있다.

영문 초록

Kim Soo-young released his poems sequence 「Gkot-ip 1. 2. 3」 on 『Hyundae Moonhak(modern literature)』on July 7, 1967. But each of those poems were written on different day. 「Gkot-ip 1」was written on May 2 of 1967, 「Gkot-ip 2」on May 7 of 1967, and 「Gkot-ip 3 」on May 30 of 1967. Even though views of the poems sequence 「Gkot-ip」are very various, many scholars relate the poems to historical metaphor of the 4.19 revolution or the 5.16 coup and regard the meaning of the word Gkot-ip(floral leaf) as same in each poem. However, it is incorrect to think that all the meanings of Gkot-ip in every poem in the sequence are the same because all of the poem sequence was released on same day. Because the historical situation at the time which the poems were written was different and it is hidden as a metaphor, the meaning of the words are different in each poem. The 「Gkot-ip 1」was written on May 2, 1967, which was just before the Sixth Election day. Intellectuals at that time assured that if all corruptions were cleared away perfectly, they could remove new government from 5.16 coup. Kim, as one of the intellectuals at that time, expressed this hope and excitement of the new era in this poem. In Gkot-ip 1, Gkot-ip represents freedom, hope, and resistance. The 「Gkot-ip 2 」was written on May 7 of 1967, which was 4 days after the election of May 3. The result of the election frustrated Kim and this frustration was expressed in the poem. The Gkot-ip , meaning floral leaf, in the first and second verses represent frustrated feelings of discouragement. In the third and fourth verses, the yellow flower and leaf symbolize the corruption of the government which was filled with the almighty dollaprinciple. The flower in the second, fourth, and sixth line in the fourth verse means freedom. In the last verse, the floral leaf symbolizes conscience and resistance, and yellow flower means government. The 「Gkot-ip 3」was written on May 30, 1967. In this poem, Kim shows his desire for democratic change at the upcoming election of June 8. He wanted to remedy the failure of the May 3 election in this next election, selecting a real party for the people. He thought this could be achieved by the people who actively give their voice to society, and this idea is fully reflected in the 「Gkot-ip 3」. The time in which we are living now is also a corruptive era controlled by the power of capital. Furthermore, no politicians take their words seriously. Even though it has been sixty years after Kim had passed away, his poems still give a voice to our society.
