한국 교육실습생은 미국 중학교에서 수업을 하면서 어떤 경험을 하는가?

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 우리나라의 사범대 학생들이 미국의 중학교에서 수업을 하면서 어떤 경험을 하는지를 파악하기 위하여 수행하였다. 연구에 참여한 학생들은 사범대 재학 중인 3학년 3명으로 남학생 2명 여학생 1명이었다. 연구결과 한국교생들은 자국 문화를 미국 학생들에게 가르치는 문화대사의 역할을 하였으며 미국 교사들은 수업에서 IT를 적극적으로 활용한다. 그리고 교사들은 학급내의 질서를 유지하고 창의성을 키우면서도 학생들과 효율적으로 상호작용하였다. 학생들은 교사의 지시에 순응하면서도 기회가 되면 산만해지기도 하였다. 본 연구수행의 의미로는 첫째, 실습 초기 수업용 영어 표현의 미숙함과 아동들과의 의사소통이 원활하지 않았음에도 불구하고 적극적인 자세로 한국의 문화를 미국초등 학교에서 소개하고 함께 공유하는 경험을 나누었다. 둘째, 미국 교육실습에 대한 현실과 이상에 대해 여러 가지 충돌을 경험했음을 볼 수 있었다. 셋째, 미국 교육실습에 참여한 예비교사의 체험에 바탕 한 내러티브들은 향후 국제교육실습은 입안하거나 계획하는데 있어 귀중한 자료로서의 가치가 있다.

영문 초록

This study is the case study on teachers’ experience on international teachers’ teaching practice at schools in the USA based on three Korean secondary preservice teachers’(including two boys) narrative accounts. The purpose of this study is to understand the experiences of meanings of practicum exercised by student teachers through narrative inquiry which is the story to refer to anecdotes of specific situations. The data source contains journal of participants, interviews, email and autobiograhpic writings which are a powerful method of understanding the experience. For trustworthiness of this study, participants checking and peer debreefing were used. The results of this study show that Korean students teachers suffered very much due to conflicts of the teaching practice in the States classrooms. But they understand the difference between their expectations and reality. It encouraged them to decrease possible mistakes as foreign future teachers. They taught on Korean culture to American students and it made them to have confidence to go through. They found that American teachers are skillful to manage classroom and foster the creativity. Young student seemed to be just kids, sometimes obey teachers and the other time didn’t follow instructions. The study found some meanings. First, the participants shared their experience even though their communication did not work well. Second, they have undergone the big gab between the ideal and the real. Third, the narrative inquiry can be a useful method to reveal the future teachers experience and to explor their story and episodes.
