성리학의 이상으로서의 天人合一

국문 초록

본 논문의 목적은 성리학의 천인합일과 프뢰벨의 신적합일을 비교하면서 양자사이의 양립불가능을 역설하는 데에 있다. 프뢰벨의 이론과 성리학은 인간의 이상적인 모습을 신 또는 하늘과의 일치에서 찾았다는 점에서 다르지 않다. 그러나 프뢰벨의 신적합일에서의 신은 인간이 도달하고자 애써야 하지만 결코 도달할 수 없다는 점을 함의하는 ‘소극적 기준’인 반면에, 성리학의 천인합일에서의 하늘은 인간이 그 자체로 이미 하늘과 다르지 않다는 점을 드러내는 ‘적극적 세력’이다. 양자의 차이는 선과 악에 대한 견해의 차이로 구체화된다. 프뢰벨의 선악관과 달리, 성리학의 선악관은 선과 악의 ‘연속모형’을 반영하고 있으며, 이 연속모형에 의하면 악을 떠나서 따로 존재하는 선, 즉 악의 형식으로서가 아닌 다른 방식으로 존재하는 선은 관념상 날조된 허구에 불과하다. 성리학의 천인합일에 대한 이해가 이와 같다고 할 때 인성교육에서 가장 경계해야 할 것은 교육을 통해 제시되는 선이 독단이나 허구에 지나지 않도록 하는 것이고 말할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to compare the Divine Unity of Froebel and Unity of Heaven and Man of Neo-Confucianism and to emphasize the incompatibility between them. Froebel s theory and neo-Confucianism are not different in that they have found the ideal of human beings in unity with God or heaven. But while Froebel s Divine Unity is a passive standard that implies that humans must seek to reach, but never reach, the sky in the Unity of Heaven and Man of Neo-Confucianism is the active force that reveals that man is not different from heaven in itself. The difference between the two is embodied in the difference of opinion about good and evil. In contrast to Froebel s, view of Good and Evil of Confucianism reflects a continuous model of good and evil, and according to this continuous model, the good that exists apart from evil and exists in a way other than as a form of evil, it s just a fiction. The most important thing to be aware of in personality education is to make sure that the Good presented through education are nothing more than dogmatism or fiction.
