헤겔의 관점에서 본 도덕 발달의 원리

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 헤겔의 관점에서 도덕 발달의 주관적 원리, 적어도 그 원리가 포함하는 도덕 발달의 의미와 필연성과 방법은 무엇인가 하는 문제를 고찰하고 이 고찰이 도덕교육에 주는 시사를 탐색하는 데에 있다. 헤겔의 저작에 들어 있는 ‘도덕발달이론’은 도덕 발달의 주관적 원리에 관한 이론적 해명에 유력한 관점을 제공하고 있다. 그의 관점에서 ‘타자 속 자기와의 관련’ 또는 ‘타자 속 자기로의 복귀’로서의 ‘정신의 자유’는 도덕 발달의 의미와 필연성과 방법을 해명하는 주관적 원리에 해당한다. 그의 이러한 관점에서 보면, 오늘날 개인의 도덕 발달에 관한 이론에서 주로 부각되는 두 유형의 도덕, 이를테면 ‘타율적 도덕’과 ‘자율적 도덕’은 그것이 정신의 자유를 점점 더 실현하고 인식하는 일이라는 점에서만 도덕 발달의 계열에서 위계를 이루는 것으로 간주될 수 있으며, 나아가서 이 두 유형의 도덕이 도덕 발달의 계열을 이룬다고 보기 위해서는 그 두 유형의 도덕의 좋은 점이 수렴되는 ‘더 좋은’ 제삼의 도덕, 이를테면 ‘정신의 도덕’이 요구된다. 도덕교육은, 학습자로 하여금 이러한 도덕 발달의 계열에서 마음의 자유가 가진 실질적 의미를 스스로 실현하고 인식함으로써 종국에는 자기가 남들과 ‘정신’을 공유하는, 정신의 편에서는 정신이 자기의 현실적 진면목을 개인 학습자들을 통하여 스스로 확립하는, 자유로운 존재임을 인식하도록 이끄는 일이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to search for the subjective principle of moral development which includes its proper meaning, necessity, and method in Hegel s view, and thereby suggest some educational implications. The so-called moral development theory that is found out of his works, especially Phenomenology of Spirit(Phänomenologie des Geistes), seems to give a convincing view for this search. In the theory, the subjective principle is Spirit s freedom as self s relation or returning to self in others. And this principle elucidates the relationship between the two prevalent types of morality in today s moral development theory: heteronomous and autonomous. That is, these two types can be justified as the two sequential and dialectical stages or phases of moral development, only in that they by turns improve realization and knowledge of the freedom better and better, and finally are sublated and unified into the third best morality, so to speak, Spirit s morality . In this view, moral education means to guide a student to realize and know about the substance of his or her own freedom better and better in the sequential process of moral development, and finally know objectively that he or she is an unique but universal person who takes his/her share in Spirit s freedom, and makes it concrete in his/her own style, whereas Spirit is the self-conscious living entity who establishes and perpetuates its own actual freedom in-and-for itself, through the lives and activities of the individuals.
