비교과교사들의 교사학습공동체 경험에 대한 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 비교과교사인 보건교사들의 교사학습공동체가 보건교사들에게 갖는 의미는 무엇이며, 이들이 교사학습공동체에서 어떻게 수업전문성을 향상시키고 있는지 탐색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 연구자는 학교 밖 교사학습공동체인 보건수업 연구회에서 활동하는 보건교사 4명을 면담하였다. 본 연구의 보건수업 연구회 교사들은 자발적으로 교사학습공동체를 형성하여 한 학교에 1인 배치되어 있는 보건교사의 ‘고립’을 깨고 서로 협력하여 수업연구를 하고 있었다. 연구에 참여한 교사들은 연구회 활동을 통해 학교 의료인의 역할을 넘어서 수업을 하는 교사로서의 자존감을 재정립하고 교사 임파워먼트를 신장하고 있었다. 또한, 연구회에서 교사들은 서로의 다양한 관심사에 따른 전문성을 공유하여 집단지성을 통해 다양한 수업방식을 시도하였다. 협력적 수업연구를 통해 이들은 평상시 주로 해오던 강의식 수업과 동영상 중심 수업에서 벗어나 푸드테라피, 미술치료, 독서토론, 비주얼씽킹 등의 다양한 수업방법으로 학생 중심 보건수업을 하게 되었다. 본 연구는 보건교사들의 교사학습공동체가 보건교사의 전문성을 향상시키는 데에 효과적인 방안임을 시사한다. 보건교사들에게 있어서 교사학습공동체는 단지 수업전문성을 향상시키는 데에 그치지 않고, 보건교육자로서의 자존감과 임파워먼트 신장을 통해 보건교육의 질을 높이는 데에 기여할 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore how health teachers improved instruction and developed their professionalism through a teacher learning community. The author interviewed four teachers of the health teacher learning community. Their main motives of participating in the community were not only developing their teacher professionalism especially for instruction but also breaking out of their “isolation” by collaborating with colleagues of health education in other schools―health teachers were usually “isolated” in their own schools without health education colleagues because one school usually had only one health teacher. The main results were as follows: through collaboration in the community, the teachers improved instruction by adopting new approaches of teaching and learning―the methods of food therapy, art therapy, book discussion, and Visual Thinking, and so on; by trying student-centered instruction, they deeply got to understand the individual traits of their students including learning abilities and health status; they felt the joy of teaching in the interactions with students; they also developed their identities and felt empowered as teachers of health education beyond playing the role of school nurses. Theses results suggested that a teacher learning community would be a very effective approach for health teachers to develop teacher professionalism especially as health educators.
