꽃을 소재로 한 대중가요의 양상과 특징

국문 초록

본고는 1950년대 말에 발간된 노래책 세 권 속 ‘꽃노래’의 양상을 살펴본 것이다. 노래책 자료를 소개하는 것과 동시에 그 책에 실린 노랫말들을 모두 검토하여 그 중에서 꽃을 소재로 한 노래를 선별하고 그 양상과 특징을 살펴보았다. 1950년대 노래책 세 권을 선택한 것은 실증적인 연구를 위한 편의상의 선택이면서 이제까지 연구되지 않았던 노래책 연구를 위한 방편이었다. 노래책 세 권에 실린 514곡의 대중가요 중에서 제목이나 노랫말에 ‘꽃’이 등장하는 노래는 중복되는 노래 1곡을 제외하고 총 90곡이었다. 노랫말을 전반적으로 검토하여, 긍정적인 내용의 노래와 부정적인 내용의 노래로 나눈 결과, 긍정적인 내용의 노래는 30곡, 부정적인 내용의 노래는 60곡으로 나타났다. 이후, 각 노래에서 ‘꽃’이 어떤 기능을 하는지 알아보았다. 긍정적인 내용의 노랫말에서 ‘꽃’은 첫째, 청춘과 사랑의 표상, 둘째, 꽃의 예찬, 셋째, 봄의 상징으로 사용되었다. 청춘과 사랑의 표상에서 구체적인 꽃보다 보통명사 ‘꽃’이 주로 등장했다면, 꽃의 예찬과 봄의 상징에서는 특정 꽃을 들어 연상 작용을 통한 시각적인 효과마저 노렸다. 반면에, 부정적인 내용의 노래에서 ‘꽃’은 첫째, 슬픈 여인의 초상, 둘째, 꽃의 재생성과 인간의 유한성의 대비를 통한 비극의 강조, 셋째, 우울한 감정의 이입을 보여주었다. 노랫말에서 꽃은 실제 꽃으로 등장하기도 하고 은유와 상징의 도구로 활용되기도 하였다. 꽃이 여성을 상징하거나 외면적 아름다움을 노래한 것은 일종의 ‘꽃’이 지난 상투적 표현이라고도 볼 수 있다. 4장에서는 한시, 시조, 민요와의 비교를 통해 대중가요 속 꽃의 특징을 살펴보았다. 여타 장르와 비교하여 대중가요 속 꽃 노래는 사색적이거나 철학적이지도 않고 민요가 보여주는 것과 같은 솔직함이나 적나라함과도 거리가 있다. 하지만 그것만이 전부는 아니다. 1950년대 꽃 노래에서 찾은 꽃의 재생성과 인간의 유한성은 우리에게 시사점 내지 교훈을 주기도 한다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the aspects of Flower Songs in three songbooks published in the late 1950s. At the same time as introducing the materials for the song book, we reviewed all the lyrics in the book, selected flower-themed songs, and examined their aspects and characteristics. Choosing three songs from the 1950s was a convenience choice for empirical research and a way to study songs that had never been studied before. Among the 514 popular songs in the three songbooks, a total of 90 songs were featured, except for one overlapping song, which featured Flower in the title or lyrics. The overall review of the lyrics resulted in 30 positive songs and 60 negative songs. Later, we looked at what function Flower does in each song. In the lyrics of positive content, Flower was used as a first, a symbol of youth and love, second, a glorification of flowers, and third, a symbol of spring. If the common noun Flower appeared mainly on the table of youth and love, the symbol of flowers and spring held a certain flower to seek the visual effect of associative action. On the other hand, in a song of negative content, Flower showed first, a portrait of a sad woman, second, the emphasis of tragedy through the contrast of flower regeneration and human finiteity, and third, the transfer of melancholy emotion. In the lyrics, flowers appeared as real flowers and were used as a metaphor and symbol. The fact that flowers symbolize women or sing external beauty can be seen as a kind of cliche that flowers have passed. In Chapter 4, we looked at the characteristics of flowers in popular songs through comparisons with Chinese poems, sijo and folk songs. Compared to other genres, flower songs in popular songs are not contemplative or philosophical, and they are far from the frankness or nakedness of folk songs. But that s not all. The regeneration and human finiteity of flowers found in 1950 s flower songs also give us lessons.
