고용가능성과 고등교육과정: 영국의 파운데이션 +1 학위과정 사례 연구를 통해 고찰한 고등직업교육과정의 발전 방향

국문 초록

본 연구는 고등교육의 고용가능성 신장이라는 목적을 성공적으로 달성하고 있는 영국의 파운데이션 +1 학위과정의 구체적인 사례들을 선정하고 각 교육과정이 제시하는 학습성과가 학습자의 어떤 고용가능성 요소의 신장에 도움을 주는지에 대해 분석하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 첫째, 고등교육에서 강조되어야 하는 고용가능성의 특성은 무엇인가, 둘째, 고용가능성은 파운데이션 +1 학위과정이 제시한 학습성과 속에 어떻게 반영되고 있으며, 두 과정의 학습성과의 수준에는 어떤 차이가 있는가? 셋째, 영국의 사례가 우리나라 직업고등교육과정에 시사하는 바는 무엇인가의 세 가지 연구문제를 설정하였다. 이에 따라 고용가능성의 요소를 이해력, 기술, 자기효능감 및 상위인지력의 네 가지 요소로 정리하고, 그 구체적인 내용을 교육과정이 의도하고 있는 학습성과의 측면에서 제시하였다. 고용가능성 요소를 바탕으로 파운데이션 +1 학위과정의 학습성과 기술을 비교한 결과, 고용가능성 요소들이 학위 수준에 따라 차등적으로 두 학위과정에 적용되고 있음을 발견하였다. 졸업자에게 필요한 고용가능성 요소를 정의하고, 이를 구체적인 학습성과로 정의하여 학위과정에 차별적으로 적용하고 있는 영국의 사례는 현재 운영되고 있는 전문대학의 전공심화과정 뿐 아니라 우리나라 고등교육 전반의 발전에 시사하는 바가 크다.

영문 초록

This study investigates two cases of Foundation Degree +1 programs in England to find what should be done to accommodate the elements of employability in higher education system - its degree structure and curriculum. Research questions were threefold: first, what are the characteristics of employability that need to be emphasized throughout higher education period?; second, how employability is reflected in the learning outcomes of these two cases of successive programs?; third, what implications can be drawn from the cases of higher education in England? This study conceptualizes understanding, skills, self-efficacy, and metacognition as the main elements of employability that needs be achieved through higher education and draw an analytic framework to investigate higher education programs. The results of the analysis of two actual Foundation Degree +1 programs in England show that the elements of employability are closely related to learning outcomes in each curriculum, which are differently defined and applied to the curricula. Also, teaching in both cases of the Foundation +1 programs commonly emphasizes constructive teaching methods and low-stake assessments. These methodological approaches enhance the elements of employability such as self-efficacy and metacognition, which develop the lifelong learning abilities of the learners. This investigation implies that Korea`s higher education should be more based on the concept of employability and its elements when curricula are developed to meet the societal needs of work-based higher education and lifelong learning society. Junior colleges, particularly, need to reorganize their system and curricula to provide quality vocational education.
