모당 손처눌의 수신지학과 의병･강학활동

국문 초록

본 논문은 모당 손처눌의 의병 및 강학활동이 어떠한 사상적 기반에서 비롯되었는지를 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 의병 및 강학활동은 이미 기존 연구에서 대략적으로 다루었던 터라 사상적 특징과 그 형성의 계기를 중심으로 검토하고 이들과의 관련성에 주목하기로 했다. 그의 사상 형성에는 세 스승의 영향이 절대적이었다. 전경창은 그를 과거지학에서 위기지학으로, 정사철과 정구는 이황의 심학적 전통에서 자신의 수신지학을 열어가도록 했다. 즉 ‘부동심’, 도심과 인심의 격전지인 마음에서 본성의 순선함을 지키기 위해 기질의 불선함을 경계하는 데에 ‘경’을 통한 마음공부가 중요한 맥락에 자리하고 있다. 그리고 이러한 점은 실천지학으로 확장되어 나타난다. 임진왜란, 정유재란으로 이어지는 국난의 상황에서 ‘공산의진’을 결성하여 의병장으로 활동하면서 지역을 수호하는 데 일조하는가 하며, 그 이후에는 영모당 등 서원 건립과 강학을 통한 인재 양성에 주력하면서 백성의 교화와 사회적 안정을 도모했다. 이러한 사실에서 알 수 있듯이 그는 수신지학이란 자신의 사상적 신념 아래 의병 및 강학활동을 펼침으로써 당대 지식인의 일관된 삶을 보여주고 있다.

영문 초록

This paper is aimed at revealing what ideological basis the medical and hard-working activities of Mondang Son, Chua-nul originated from. The Activity of the Rational Militia and Educational Semiar, which has already been fully addressed in previous studies, has been reviewed around the philosophical features and the instruments of their formation and has been noted for their relevance. The influence of the three teachers was absolute in shaping his philosophy. Jeon, Kyung-chang transformed him from Learning for the Civil service extension to Learning for Self-implementation , and Jeong, Sa-cheol and Jeong, Gu had an impact in claiming his own The Study of Malining in Yi, Hwang s ‘Mind and Heart Learning tradition. In other words, Unperturbed Mind, studying mind through Ching is an important context for eliminating the impurity of temperament to preserve the purity of nature. And this is an extension of The Study of Practice . In the midst of the crisis in the country leading up to mjin War and Jeongyu War, he formed Gongsanuijin to serve as the head of the Ritual Militia, helping to defend the region. After that, he focused on nurturing talent through the Educational Semiar, promoting social stability while cultivating the people. As can be seen from this fact, he consistently shows his face as an intellectual of the day by demonstrating the Activity of the Rational Militia and Educational Semiar according to his philosophical belief in The Study of Moral Training.
