국문 초록

본 연구는 부부폭력 피해여성들의 폭력대처 변화와 그 과정에서 습득한 피해자의 경험적 지식을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 질적 내용분석 방법을 활용하였다. 연구참여자들은 상담기관에서 서비스를 받은 10명 피해여성들이다. 주요 연구결과를 살펴보면, 회피적 대응은 배우자의 폭력을 부추기고 참여자들의 정신건강문제를 악화시키고 있었다. 이에 비해 공식적인 지원체계를 활용한 접근방식의 대처는 신체폭력의 추가피해를 줄이고, 가족구성원들의 정서적 안정에 어느 정도 기여하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 공공기관과 접촉하면서 여성들의 대처방식은 회피적 대응에서 폭력을 허용하지 않는 적극적 대응으로 바뀐다. 이러한 변화에 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 배우자의 자녀학대, 자녀의 문제행동, 공권력 앞에서 위축된 남편의 모습과 중단된 신체적 폭력, 그리고 사적 도움의 한계를 들 수 있다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 부부폭력 피해여성의 안전을 확보하기 위한 정책적, 실천적 방안을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study sought to examine the process of changes in coping, as well as experiential knowledge of female victims of intimate partner violence. To this end, a qualitative content analysis method was used. The participants were 10 female victims who had received counseling in clinical settings. The main findings of this study are as follows. Avoidance coping prompted violence and worsened the participants’ mental health problems. However, approaches using an official support system reduced perpetrators additional physical violence and contributed to the emotional stability of the family members to some extent. While coming in contact with public institutions, female victims changed from avoidance responses to more active responses that no longer permitted violence. The factors influencing these changes included husbands child abuse, children’s problematic behavior, husbands’ weaknesses in the face of public authorities, suspended physical violence, and the limitations of private help. Based on these findings, policy and practical implications for increasing the safety of abused women were discussed.
