노인 자살시도 경험의 의미에 대한 질적 해석적 메타통합

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 노인자살 시도경험의 의미에 대해 좀 더 광범위한 시너지적 이해를 도출하기 위해 최근 사회복지분야에 새롭게 소개된 질적 해석적 메타통합(Qualitative Interpretive Meta-Synthesis: 이하 QIMS)을 적용하였다. 사회적으로 이해하기 어려운 현상인 자살시도 경험은 당사자들의 설명에 의해서만 충분한 이해가 가능하기 때문에 QIMS를 통해 노인들의 경험을 이해하는 것은 그들을 보호하는 중요한 역할을 하게 된다. 연구자들이 창출해 낸 새롭고 중요한 주제는 여전히 존재하는 다양한 삶의 통증들, 통제력을 회복하려는 시도와 경험으로부터의 성찰, 공감환경의 열망과 다시 살아감의 의미로 확인되었다. 시너지적 이해로 도출된 노인 자살시도 경험의 의미는 다양한 삶의 통증들이 여전히 존재하지만 통제력을 회복하려는 시도와 경험으로부터의 성찰, 그리고 공감환경의 열망이 노인들에게 다시 살아냄의 의미를 부여하는 것으로 해석되었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 자살시도를 경험한 노인들의 여생을 지원하기 위한 구체적인 실천방향 및 정책방안을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

In this study, we applied Qualitative Interpretive Meta-Synthesis (QIMS), which was recently introduced in the social welfare field, to examine the meaning of the suicide attempt experience . The experience of suicide attempts by the elderly, a socially incomprehensible phenomenon, can be only be fully understood by the explanation from the eldery with such experiences, and using QIMS to probe into their experiences is a way to protect the elderly from further harm. The new important themes created by the researchers are as follows: turmoil in life, reflection on the attempts and experiences to restore self-control, and desire for empathetic(or supportive) environment, and the meaning of re-living their lives. The findings derived from synergistic understanding showed that elderly who have attempted suicide in the past still suffer from various pains in their lives, yet their effort to restore control, reflection of the self, and seeking for supportive environment all add meaning to re-living their lives. Based on these findings, specific practice and policy implications are provided to support the lives of the elderly with suicide attempt experiences.
