미국과 우리나라의 기술 교육 목적의 시대적 변천의 비교 분석

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 미국과 우리나라의 일반 교육으로서의 기술 교육 목적을 시대별로 비교 분석하는 것이다. 먼저, 1920년대부터 2000년대까지 미국 기술 교육의 목적을 시대별로 종합하여 변천 추이를 살펴본다. 그리고 우리나라 기술 교육 목적을 1970년대부터 2015년 개정 교육과정을 제1기부터 제9기까지 시기별로 나누어 종합한 후 변화의 특징을 살펴본다. 이를 통해 양국의 기술 교육 목적을 종합하고 시대별 추이를 비교하고자 한다. 첫째, 미국의 기술 교육 목적의 시대별 변천을 살펴보면, 1920년대부터 1980년대까지 미국 기술 교육의 목적은 ‘진로 탐색과 직업’, ‘비판적 소비주의’, ‘기능 계발’, ‘학문의 통합‘, ‘지적 과정’이었다. 이후 1980년대부터는 ‘기술과 사회·환경·윤리적 영향’, ‘기술 평가’와 같은 사회적 영역이 강조되었다. 그리고 ‘기술 시스템 사용’, ‘기술 활용을 통한 문제해결’ 중심의 지적 영역에 중점을 두고 ‘기능 계발’과 ‘진로와 직업’의 전문적, 개인적 영역은 약화되었다. 둘째, 우리나라 기술 교육의 목적을 종합해보면, 1970년대부터 1980년대 중반까지는 ‘지식 습득’, ‘기능 계발’, ‘태도 함양’, ‘진로 탐색’에 초점을 맞춰 전문적 영역과 개인적 영역이 중요시되는 반면, 지적 영역은 부각되지 않았다. 그러나 1980년대 후반부터는 ‘미래 적응’과 ‘기술활용능력’이 추가되며 사회적 영역과 지적 영역이 강조되기 시작하였다. 이후 2000년대부터 ‘문제해결능력’, ‘창의력’, ‘가치판단력’이 추가되면서 지적 영역에 중점을 둔다. 마지막으로 우리나라와 미국 기술 교육 목적의 시대별 특징을 비교해보면, 1920년대부터 시작된 미국의 기술 교육의 목적과 1970년대부터 시작된 우리나라의 기술 교육의 목적은 ‘기능 계발’, ‘진로 탐색’을 강조하며 전문적 영역과 개인적 영역을 중요시하는 공통점이 있다. 하지만 미국의 기술 교육 목적은 1980년대 이후부터 사회적 영역과 지적 영역을 강조하며 학문적, 전문적, 개인적 영역은 상대적으로 약화된다. 이와 대조적으로 우리나라의 기술 교육 목적은 학문적 영역, 전문적 영역, 개인적 영역을 중요시하는 초기의 목적을 계속 유지하면서, 사회적 영역과 지적 영역을 추가로 강조하여 기술 교육 목적의 전체 영역을 균형 있게 추구하는 특징이 있다. 또한 지적 영역의 목적이 다양화, 세분화되는 차이가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the goal of technology education as a general education in USA and Korea by the age. From 1920s to 2010s, the goal of the American technology education will be summarized by period, and the transition trend will be examined. In addition, from 1970s to 2015, the goal of Korean technology education will be divided into periods 1 to 9, and then the characteristics of the changes will be examined. Through this, the goal of technology education of the two countries will be compiled and compared the trends by the age. First, in the United States, from the 1920s through the 1980s, the goal of technology education was to ‘Career and Vocation , Critical consumerism’, ‘Skills development’, and ‘Intellectual process’. From the 1980s, it have emphasized that the goal of Relation between technology, society and environment , Using technology system and Solving problems through technology utilization . Second, the goal of the technology education in Korea was to focus on the technical and individual area from the 1970s to the mid 1980s, focusing on ‘Acquiring knowledge’, ‘Skills development’, ’Attitude development’, and ‘Exploring career’. Since the late 1980s, Future adaptation and Ability to utilize technology have been added and emphasized the social and intellectual areas. Lastly, comparing the characteristics of the times in Korea and the United States, the initial goal of technology education is very similar. However, the goal of technology education in the USA is to emphasize the social and intellectual areas since the 1980s, and the academic, technical and personal area have relatively weakened. In contrast, the goal of technology education in Korea has emphasized on the social and intellectual area, while also maintaining the initial goal of the academic, technical, and personal area. Also the goal of the intellectual area is diversified and segmented.
