수학 학업성취도에서의 학교급별 성차 분석

국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구에서는 초·중·대학교 학생들의 수학 학업성취도에서의 성차 현상을 분석하였다. 연구방법: 초·중학교 단계에서는 기초학력(교과학습) 진단평가 대상인 초등학교 3학년, 4학년, 5학년, 중학교 1학년, 2학년 학생을, 그리고 대학교 단계에서는 2018년 1학기 미분적분학 I, II를 교양필수로 수강하는 공과대학 학생들을 연구대상으로 하였다. 분석방법은 수학 학업성취도에서의 성차를 알아보기 위해 독립표본 t 검증을 그리고 수학 학업성취도에서의 성별 성취수준 비율 내 남녀 학생의 비율차를 알아보기 위하여 χ2 검증을 실시하였다. 연구결과: 초등학교 3학년과 대학교 2학년 단계에서 여학생의 우세현상이 나타났으며 그 외 학년 및 중학교 단계에서는 성차가 나타나지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 수학 학업성취도에서의 성별 성취수준 비율을 살펴본 결과, 학교급에 따라 서로 다른 양상을 나타내었다. 즉 초등학교 단계에서는 성별 학업성취도 성취수준 비율을 나타내는 그래프이 모양이 어느 정도 일치하는 모습을 보여주었다. 반면, 중학교 단계에서는 남녀의 그래프 모양이 점차 벗어나는 양상을 나타내었다. 대학교 단계에 이르러서는 성별 성취수준 비율의 차이가 더욱 강하게 나타났다. 논의 및 결론: 본 연구결과, 고차원적인 인지수준의 수학 문제 해결에서는 남학생이 더 뛰어나다는 일반적 통설을 지지하지 않을 뿐만 아니라, 수학 학업성취도에서의 성차 현상이 점차 바뀌어가고 있다는 학자들의 주장을 뒷받침해 주고 있다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze changes in gender differences in elementary, middle school and college students in mathematics assessment. With these analyses, results can investigate possible aspects of changes in gender gap in mathematics performance. Method: The subjects of the study were as follows; 3rd, 4th, 5th grade elementary school students, 1st and 2nd grade middle school students who were assessed for basic academic ability evaluation, and engineering college students who had learned calculus I and II. The analysis method were independent sample t-test to analyze gender differences in mathematics achievement and χ2 verification to find out differences between male and female students within the achievement level ratio. Results: The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, third grade in elementary school and sophomores in college or second grade in college showed significantly large gender differences. Female students’ score was higher than male, showing a significance difference in two grades. Second, a different aspect of sexual difference was shown in mathematics academic achievement, according to school grade levels. Conclusion: Higher academic achievement phenomena of female students in mathematics were shown evidently in all three analysis categories in this study.
