영문 초록

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship of fatigue and mood state among cancer patients receiving radiation therapy. Method: The research design is descriptive study to evaluate fatigue and mood state. Subjects of this study were consisted of 98 patients receiving radiation therapy. They were recruited from C University Hospital radiation oncology unit located in Gwangju- city from March to May, 2001. They completed a demographic data sheet, LASA, and Revised Piper Fatigue Scale. The obtained data were analyzed using SAS program that included descriptive statistiCS, t-test, ANOVA, Post-hoc test (Fisher s LSD) and Pearson s correlation. Result: The mean score of fatigue was 5.59±1.59. 72% among them reported greater than 5 points. The total score of mood state was 236 point and the scores of five items, that is, anxiety, confusion, depression, vigor, & anger were 43, 35, 47, 68, and 43 respectively. The score of fatigue was moderately correlated with that of mood state (r=.50, p=.01), and was differenced with religion have or not, the degree of monthly income, & types of caregiver respectively (t=-2.64, p=.009; F= 11.85, p=.001; F=3.25, p=.015). And also that was differenced with primary cancer site (F=3.26, p=.006) and who use analgesic or not (t=8.16, p= .005). Conclusion : Cancer patients receiving radiation therapy have expressed moderate degree of fatigue. The degree of fatigue was significantly associated with that of mood state among cancer patients. To reduce their fatigue, it should be identified the mediate variables, and developed effective nursing intervention to regulate psycho-social and physiological variables.
