영문 초록

This study has been done for the purpose of describing the perceived health status, physical health problem and health care utilization of Koreans in the Philippines. The sample consisted of 100 Koreans who have lived in Manila, Philippines. The subjects of study were 100 nursing students before major learning and 123 nursing students after that at C university in Gwang Ju city. The data were gathered from April 1 to May 30, 2002 by questionnaires. The results of this study were summarized as follows; 1. The mean score of perceived health status was 9.3 with the range from 3 to 15. Health problems tended to show higher percent in order of tooth or gum problem (41.0%) , gastrointestinal problem (21.0%) , cardiovascular problem (20.0%) and eye problem (18.0%) . 2. Only twenty-two percent of subjects had received preventive health care and fifty-one percent of that had received medical diagnosis from some health clinics. And thirty-eight percent of subjects had never utilized health care services. 3. The five barriers which were most frequently reported tended to show higher percent in order of having difficulties in expressing symptoms (54.0%) , not having confidence in the medical staff (41.0%) , needing expensive cost of health care (34.0%) , not having Korean-speaking staff members (29.0%) and Waiting too long in the clinic (22.0%) . 4. There was no relationship between health care utilization and perceived health status or physical health problem.
