국문 초록

한국어와 같은 언어에서 친족 명사는 담화적 재귀성(logophorocity)과 대명사적 속성을 보인다. ‘아내’와 같은 핵심 친족 명사는 화자를 지칭하거나 장거리 재귀사와 유사하게 성분통어하는 선행사를 지칭하지만, 동사구 생략 구문에서는 엄격 해석(strict reading)과 약식 해석(sloppy reading)을 동시에 보임으로써 대명사적 성격을 나타낸다. 이러한 특성은 ‘아내’, ‘아들’, ‘딸’과 같은 핵심 친족 명사는 내재 논항으로 재귀사적 PRO를 가지며, 재귀사적 PRO는 담화적 재귀성을 가지고 있다고 가정할 때 설명될 수 있다. ‘할머니’, ‘형’과 같은 확장 친족 명사는 화자를 지칭하지 못하고, 담화상의 선행사를 지칭할 수 있다. 따라서 확장 친족 명사는 대명사적 PRO를 내재 논항으로 가진다.

영문 초록

Languages like Korean show that kinship nouns exhibit pronominal properties as well as logophoric properties. In ordinary sentences, core kinship nouns such as anay ‘wife’ refer to the speaker as well as the c-commanding antecedent either locally or long-distance similar to reflexives with logophoric properties. In VP ellipsis context, however, both strict and sloppy interpretations are available. Assuming a reflexive PRO must be distinguished from a pronominal PRO, it is argued that core kinship nouns bear a reflexive PRO as its implicit argument and that the reflexive argument has logophoric properties. The extended kinship nouns such as halmeni ‘grandmother’, or hyeong ‘elder brother’, employ a pronominal PRO as their implicit argument, losing logophoric characteristics.
