국문 초록

본 연구는 성인 쌍둥이가 성장과정에서 느꼈던 정서적 경험과 그 의미를 내러티브를 통해 탐구함으로써, 쌍둥이에 대한 심층적이고 총체적인 이해를 돕기 위해 수행되었다. 구체적인 연구 목적은 첫째, ‘6명의 성인 쌍둥이가 성장과정에서 느꼈던 정서적 경험은 무엇인가?’ 둘째, ‘6명의 성인 쌍둥이의 성장과정에서의 정서적 경험은 어떤 의미를 지니는가?’이다. 연구방법은 실제적 경험을 지닌 연구 참여자가 중심이 되어 경험의 의미를 재구성하는 내러티브 탐구(Narrative Inquiry)의 절차에 따라 수행하였다. 20-40대 성인 여성 쌍둥이 6명을 연구 참여자로 약 4개월간 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였으며, 그 후 4개월간 전화, 메일, 문자 등을 통해 추가 자료 수집을 하였다. 자료 분석을 통해 의미를 해석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 쌍둥이는 어머니의 자궁에서부터 환경을 공유하며 서로 의지하고 협력하기도 하고, 비교와 질투, 경쟁을 경험하기도 했다. 그러면서 쌍둥이는 각자의 개별성과 독립성을 추구하였으며, 부모를 비롯한 중요한 타인에게 각각의 존재로 수용, 지지 받은 경험이 이에 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 쌍둥이와 오랜 시간 공존하며 성장한 경험은 타인의 입장을 이해하고 함께 살아가는 데 강점으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 쌍둥이를 양육하는 부모, 교육하는 교사 등 쌍둥이의 주위 사람들에게 쌍둥이에 대한 이해를 돕는 자료로서 활용될 수 있으며, 쌍둥이에게는 자신과 자신의 삶을 이해하는 데 도움이 될 수 있다는 면에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study set out to develop and broaden the general understanding of twins by exploring adult twins emotional experiences in their growth processes and analyzing the significances of their psychological acknowledgement by using the method of a narrative inquiry. Specific purposes of the study are as follows. First, What is the emotional experiences of six adult twins in their growth processes? Second, What implication can be found from six adults emotional experiences of their growth processes? The study method was carried out according to the procedure of Narrative Inquiry, which is centered on research participants with actual experiences and reconstructs the meaning of experiences. In-depth interview was conducted for beginning of four months by six adult twins participants ages from their twenties to forties, and additional data was collected by telephone, email, and letters for following four months. The interpretations throughout the data analysis are as follows. Twins share common environments including their mother s wombs, and they can be cooperative, dependent each other but sometimes they can be competitive and jealous by comparing one and other. The twins, on the other hand, pursues their own individualities and independences, and these qualities are reinforced and supported by emotional acceptances and endorsements from other important persons such as parents. The study shows that the life experiences of coexistence of twins help them to understand and empathize other members of society and it becomes their strengths. The significance of this study is can be used as a resource to develop the understanding of twins, such as parents who are raising twins, teachers who are educating, and twins in helping them understand their lives.
