국문 초록

본 연구는 유적형성과정의 측면에서 전남 동부지역의 산성점유양상을 재검토함으로써 삼국통일 이후 신라의 치소성 운영 양상 및 이후에 새롭게 등장하는 호족세력의 거점확보 전략과 그 과정에 대한 고고학적 이해를 도모하고자 하였다. 그에 따라 기존에 알려졌던 8세기대 신라산성의 일시적 폐기 현상은 성립하기 어려운 것으로 여겨지며, 삼국통일 이후 신라산성의 지속적인 운영은 군사적 목적보다는 행정 중심지, 즉 치소성을 중심으로 이루어졌던 것으로 추정되었다. 이러한 치소성은 나말여초기 호족세력에게도 거점확보의 중요한 유인으로 작용하였던 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

This study was conducted to review the occupation pattern of the fortresses of the eastern Jeonnam region, in terms of the site formation process, and therefore to promote an archaeological understanding of the management aspects of the chisoseong(治所城) after the unification of the Three Kingdoms, as well as of the strategies and processes used by powerful families to secure footholds. The results of the study indicate that the temporary abandonment of Silla fortresses in the eight century cannot be observed in the archaeological record. As such, it is proposed that the fortresses had continued to be operated for administrative purposes, namely as chisoseong, rather than for military purposes. It is believed that their function as chisoseong served as an important incentive for powerful local families to secure these fortresses as footholds.
