교육신경과학적 관점에서 본 포용적 민주시민교육

국문 초록

이 연구는 시민들로 하여금 존재하는 정치·경제적 불평등을 완화하고, 문화다양성을 존중하며, 능동적인 정치참여와 환경의식을 함양하는데 중점을 두는 포용적 민주시민교육을 교육신경과학의 관점에서 조명함으로써 교육의 이론적 정합성 뿐 아니라 현실적 적합성 확보 차원에서의 의미를 도출하고자 하였다. 이러한 관점에서 이 글은 첫째, 우선 교육신경과학적 접근이 민주시민교육에 어떤 의미를 갖는지를 살펴보고, 둘째, 교육신경과학의 주요 특징을 고찰하며, 셋째, 교육신경과학의 연구 결과가 포용적 민주시민교육에 주는 의미를 찾아보았다. 교육신경과학적 연구 결과가 포용적 민주시민교육에 주는 의미를 고찰한 결과, 이 글은 자기생성과정으로서 학습관을 지니는 교육신경과학의 관점에서 볼 때, 포용적 민주시민교육이 지향하는 시민성은 매우 긍정적인 것이라는 점, 신경세포와 인간의 상호관계적 특성이라는 신경과학적 관점에서 볼 때 시민성 교육이 관계론적 시각을 보완하는 것이 필요하다는 점, 시민성의 요소로서 민주적 판단, 비판적 및 의사결정 기능, 추론, 논쟁, 갈등해결 뿐 아니라 감수성이나 공감과 같은 정서적 측면이 보완되는 것이 바람직하다는 점을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

Inclusive democratic civic education focuses on mitigating the political and economic inequities that exist, respecting cultural diversity, and fostering active political participation and environmental awareness. The purpose of this study is to elucidate not only the theoretical coherence of education but also the meaning of realistic relevance by illuminating the inclusive democratic civic education from the viewpoint of educational neuroscience. To achieve the aim, this study firstly examines what the educational neuroscience approach means to democratic civic education. Secondly, the main features of educational neuroscience are discussed. Thirdly, the implications that the findings in educational neuroscience have for inclusive democratic civic education are explored. Through these considerations, this study shows that in view of as a self-autopotic process in educational neuroscience, the concept of positive citizenship based on participation in inclusive democratic civic education was very positive. In terms of the interactional characteristics of neurons and human beings in neuroscience, it is necessary to complement the relational view of civic education. his study also suggests that affective aspects such as emotion and empathy should be given due attention as an elements of citizenship.
