중국의 초등학교 사회교과서에 나타난 성별 불평등 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 중국의 초등학교 사회과 교과서에 나타나는 성별 불평등 현황에 대하여 탐색하는데 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 중국의 초등학교 사회과 교과서 중에서 3학년부터 5학년까지의 인교판 교과서와 상교판 교과서이다. 연구방법은 빈도분석과 교과서 기술내용분석을 활용하였다. 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인교판 교과서와 상교판 교과서에 전반적으로 성별 불평등이 나타나고 있다. 둘째, 직업활동과 관련한 내용에서는 인교판 교과서와 상교판 교과서에서 성별 불평등 경향이 있다. 인교판 교과서가 상교판 교과서에 비하여 상대적으로 성별 불평등이 강하게 제시되었다. 셋째, 가사활동에서도 인교판 교과서와 상교판 교과서 모두가 성별 불평등 경향을 보이고 있으며 남녀등장인물 가사활동 참여 비율의 성별간 차이는 여전히 인교판 교과서가 상교판보다 크게 나타났다. 넷째, 사회활동과 관련된 내용은 2종 교과서에서 모두 직업활동과 가사활동에 비하여 적게 나타나고 있으며, 내용 부분에 있어서도 성별 불평등 경향도 뚜렷하게 나타나고 있지 않다. 대체적으로 중국의 초등학교 사회과 교과서 내용에서 학생의 성 역할에 대한 인식에 부정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있는 성별 불평등 현상이 나타났다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 교과서에 나타난 성별 불평등 요소를 개선하려는 노력을 위하여 정책적인 제언을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the gender inequalities in elementary school social studies textbooks in China. The subjects of this study are the social studies textbooks for the 3rd and 5th graders of Chinese elementary school, the textbooks published by the People’s Education Press in Beijing and Shanghai Education Press. The research method used frequency analysis and contents analysis of textbooks. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, gender inequalities were generally seen in the textbooks of the Beijing version and the Shanghai version. Second, in relation to occupational activities, both the textbooks published by the People’s Education Press and Shanghai Education Press showed similar trends of gender inequality. The Beijing version of social studies textbooks had a strong tendency to show gender inequality. Third, in the domestic activities, both the textbooks of the Beijing version and the textbooks of the Shanghai version showed gender inequality tendencies. Moreover, the gender differences in the participation rates of male characters and female characters were still larger in the Bejing version than the Shanghai version. Fourth, contents related to social activities were less common in both textbooks than occupational activities and household activities, and it was considered that gender inequality trends contained in contents were not presented clearly. There is a gender inequality phenomenon that can negatively affect the perception of students gender roles in the contents of main social studies textbooks in China. In order to improve gender inequality in textbooks, policy suggestions were also discussed.
