성차에 따른 교사의 ICT 활용 유형 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 중등학교 남녀 교사들 간에 ICT 활용 목적 및 유형에 차이가 있는지를 확인하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 통합연구방법이 사용되었는데, 한국교육종단연구2005의 2차년도 자료를 활용하여 양적으로 분석하였고, 개별 교사와의 인터뷰 자료를 활용하여 질적으로 분석하였다. 그 결과, 교사들은 주로 ‘자료제작 및 활용’, ‘정보획득’, ‘의사소통’ 그리고 ‘행정활동’ 등의 목적으로 컴퓨터를 활용하는 것으로 나타났다. 남녀 교사의 성차와 관련하여서는 정보 활용의 격차(divide)는 발견되지 않은 반면 그 목적과 유형에 있어 상이한 차이(differences)가 확인되었는데, 특히 여교사들이 상대적으로 ‘의사소통’의 욕구가 강한 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 남녀 교사 모두 최근 경향인 '웹 2.0'의 특징 중 하나인 온라인 사회 네트워크 소프트웨어를 적극적으로 활용하고 있었다. 본 연구의 결과에 근거한 제언으로는 남녀 교사들의 ICT 활용 유형을 반영한 다양한 형태의 ICT 활용 촉진 전략이 모색되어야 할 필요성이 제기되었다. 또한, 컴퓨터공포증, 학부모의 반대, 교사의 과중한 업무 등 ICT활용을 가로막는 현실적인 제약들을 해소할 수 있는 방안에 대한 논의가 필요하며, 마지막으로 보다 발전된 형태의 ICT를 적극적으로 활용하기 위해 직무 연수 등을 통한 체계적인 발전방안이 요구되었다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to understand the differences between male teachers and female ones in middle schools in Korea in the use of ICT. In order to address research questions, two kinds of data that one is Korean Educational Longitudinal Research 2005 (KELR 2005) the other is from semi-structured interviews were used for mixed methodology of data analyses. As a result, the participants generally used computers and the Internet for ‘development and use of teaching materials,’ ‘information acquisition,’ ‘communication,’ and ‘administrative activities.’ There hardly found digital divide issues between male and female teachers, rather the differences in the use of computers existed: Generally, female teachers showed strong preferences to communication purposes. Meanwhile, both male and female teachers frequently used online social networking features such as instant messaging clients. However, females tended to use ICTs in a more various and interactive way. Based on the findings from the research, it is suggested that strategies which reflect the differences in the use of ICTs between male and female teachers in order to facilitate teachers to use ICTs should be developed. Also, it is needed to address barriers such as computerphobia and work overload among teachers, and parents’ objection to teachers’ active use of ICTs for some reasons. Last, systematic plans are required for the development of ICT use.
