결혼이주여성의 자녀교육 어려움에 대한 종단적 사례연구:학력에 따른 아비투스와 문화접변 전략을 중심으로

국문 초록

이 연구는 결혼이주여성들의 자녀교육 경험을 ‘종단적으로’ 확인할 필요가 있다는 문제의 식 하에 결혼이주여성의 학력에 따른 자녀교육방식과 그 어려움의 차이가 시간의 ‘변화’에 따라 어떻게 드러나고 그것은 사회문화적으로 어떤 의미를 지니는지를 논의하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 아홉 명의 결혼이주여성과 함께 6년 간 종단적 질적 사례 연구를 수행하였다. 연 구결과, 저학력 결혼이주여성의 경우는 ‘자기부정적’ 아비투스로 인하여 자녀교육에 있어서 전적으로 한국의 지배문화에 대한 ‘동화’적 태도를 취하였으나 자녀의 주류사회 ‘동화’를 위 한 구체적인 실천이 부족하여 ‘동화’라는 결과를 낳기가 어려웠다. 반면, 고학력 결혼이주여 성들은 ‘학구적’ 아비투스에 근거하여 낯선 환경 속에서 자신의 판단 기준에 적합한 최대한 의 구체적인 지원을 하고자 하였으며 그 결과 이중언어교육과 모국과의 긴밀한 유대, 초국 적 진로 등 글로벌한 인재양성을 학교교육의 중심 목표로 삼는 현재 한국사회에서 자녀는 성공적으로 ‘동화’될 가능성을 높게 갖고 있었다. 이렇게 자녀의 한국사회 적응이 결혼이주 여성의 문화접변 전략과는 다르거나 때로는 모순되게 나타난다고 볼 때, 세계화와 더불어 급격히 변화된 한국사회라는 특수한 맥락 속에서 결혼이주여성과 그 자녀들이 건강한 시민 으로 자리잡기 위해서는 ‘자기부정의 아비투스’를 극복하도록 모국언어와 문화에 대한 중시 와 함께 가족중심의 지원정책이 필요하다는 점을 강조하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to understand how the differences between migrant women in educating their children according to their academic career manifest their parent-children relationships through time and to discuss its socio-cultural meaning in terms of the relation between migrant women's habitus and their acculturation strategies. A 6-year longitudinal case study was conducted with 9 migrant women. As its result, it is revealed that migrant women with a low academic career assumed the assimilative attitude toward the mainstream society due to their 'self-negating' habitus, only to fail in practicing for and resulting in assimilation. On the other hand, it is revealed that migrant women with higher academic career have difficulties in acquiring information and struggling for the best educative support in terms of their criteria within an unfamiliar education environment. Their bilingual education, systematic support for schooling, and transnational career might result in their children's assimilation to the mainstream society regardless of their attitude toward it. These unexpected possibilities of their children's adjusting to the mainstream society might be interpreted to be embedded within the particular context of South Korean society, which has been transformed drastically to the global-oriented one within the last two decades.
