국문 초록

가야고분(伽耶古墳)에서 주로 발견되는 (유개)대부파수부 소호는 연구자에 따라서 다양한 이름으로 불리고 있으며, 따라서 이 자료의 연구와 해석을 그만큼 어렵게 만들고 있다. 본고에서는 이 토기의 전형적인 모습이 무엇인지를 명확히 함으로써 지금까지 혼란스러웠던 이 토기의 명칭과 그로인해 야기된 연구의 어려움을 불식시키고, 나아가 이 토기의 속성분석과 형식분류를 통해 가야토기 내에서 이 토기가 가지는 의미를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 이 토기는 배(杯)나 완(􄽱)과는 확연히 차이 나는 것으로서 뚜껑을 덮을 수 있기 때문에 (유개)대부파수부 소호라는 명칭이 적합함을 밝혔다. 아울러 이 토기는 파수의 형태, 동체부에 베풀어진 문양, 대각에 베풀어진 장식이 속성분석의 대상이 되었으며, 형식분류 결과 대략 3단계로 나눌 수 있었다. I단계는 5세기 전반대로서 IA1, IB1식이 해당되며, 분포의 중심지는 복천동고분군(福泉洞古墳群)으로 대표되는 동래지역일 가능성이 높다. 또한 IA1, IB1식이 정연한 선후관계를 보여주지 못하고 뒤섞여서 발견되고 있는 것에서「형식 난립기」가야토기의 특색을 보여주고 있다. II단계는 5세기 후반대가 중심연대이며, IB2, IC1, IC2a식이 해당된다. 이 단계는 (유개)대부파수부 소호가 새로운 요소, 즉 파상문의 채용과 대각에 (세)장방형 투창이 뚫리는 새로운 현상이 나타나는 단계이다. 이 시기가 되면 김해지역에서는 거의 소멸하는 반면 서부경남 일대에 넓게 분포하게 된다. III단계는 5세기 4/4분기 이후로서 가야의 정치체를 중심으로 강한 지역색을 가진 (유개)대부파수부 소호가 정착하는 시기이다. 예를 들면 함안지역에서는 IA2a식과 유사하지만 동체부가 구형(球形)을 이루면서 사격자문이 상하 2곳에 배치되는 형식의 것이 성행하는 반면에 고령지역에서는 IIC2b식만이 존재하는 것이 그것이다. 다만 소가야지역에서는 다소 특색 있는 자료들이 존재하고 있지만 그 수가 적을 뿐만 아니라 형태도 통일되지 않고 다양하기 때문에 이 지역에서의 지역색을 논하기에는 아직 시기상조이다.

영문 초록

The mounted small jar with handle and cover, which is primarily discovered in Gaya tombs, has been given various names by different researchers, making the research and interpretation of these data more difficult. In this paper, property analysis and form classification of the pottery is carried out in order to examine the meaning of this pottery within Gaya. The typical forms of this pottery are clarified, thereby lessening the confusion over its differing names, which has caused such difficulty in research. As a result of the study, it is suggested that this pottery should be called the ‘mounted small jar with handle and cover’ because it is different from a cup or bowl, as it has a cover which allows the vessel to be closed. In addition, the shape of the vessel handle, the figure of the vessel body, and the decoration of the vessel foot were examined for property analysis; as a result of the form classification, three stages can be presented. Stage I, which saw the use of I A1, I B1 type vessels, dates to the early 5th century. It is highly probable that the center of this stage was Dongrae, where it is represented in the Bokcheon-dong tombs. Also, I A1, I B1 type vessels show characteristics of the ‘inconsistent phase’ of Gaya pottery in that they do not appear in an organized order and are discovered in disarray. Stage II, dating to the late 5th century, consists of I B2, I C1, I C2a type vessels. This particular stage witnessed the occurrence of new features on the mounted small jar with handle and cover, namely the wave pattern used to decorate the vessel body and the rectangular perforations on the vessel foot. Although these vessel types were was almost extinct in the Kimhae area during this period, they were widely distributed in the western Gyeongnam region. Stage III, dating to the end of the 5th century, is when the mounted small jar with handle began to illustrate strong regional variation, with the different regional styles being associated with the centers of the different Gaya polities. For example, vessels similar to the I A2a type but with a globular shaped body and diamond motif patterns arranged along the top and bottom occur in the Haman area, whereas only the II C2b type is found in the Goryeong area. In the Sogaya area, some distinctive styles have been identified, but the examples are limited in quantity and deviate greatly in shape, making it difficult, for the moment, to establish a vessel style unique to this region.
