국문 초록

가야의 고고학적 연구는 토기가 중심으로 대가야(大加耶), 아라가야(阿􆦯加耶) 등의 토기 양식에 대해서는 대체로 이견이 없다. 그러나 소가야양식(小加耶樣式) 토기에 대해서는 자료 부족 등의 이유로 양식의 설정 및 명칭, 중심지 등에 대해 이견이 많으므로 소가야양식 토기 설정이 가능한지에 대해 검토하였다. 먼저 소가야지역에서 출토되는 토기 중 무개식(無蓋式) 삼각투창고배(三角透窓高杯), 유개식(有蓋式) 삼각투창고배, 일단장방형투창고배(一段長方形透窓高杯), 이단교호투창고배(二段交互透窓高杯), 개(蓋), 수평구연호(水平口緣壺), 대부직구호(臺附直口壺), 수평구연발형기대(水平口緣鉢形器臺), 통형기대(筒形器臺), 대부파부수완(臺附把手宛), 파수부배(把手附杯)를 각 기종별로 특징적인 속성에 따라 형식분류(型式分類)하고 순서배열(順序配􆨴)한 후 이를 토대로 I~VII의 7단계로 구분하였다. 그리고 각 단계별로 일부 문헌을 이용하여 하한을 정하고 대가야, 신라양식 토기, 스에키(須惠器) 등과의 교차편년(交差編年)을 통해 5세기 1/4분기~6세기 2/4분기까지의 연대를 부여하였다. 이렇게 분석한 토기들은 각 기종별로 분포권을 달리하는 것이 아니라 같은 분포정형을 보이고 있고, 제 기종들의 전체적인 변화양상이 거의 같음을 확인하였다. 즉, 토기의 생산체계부터 부장양상까지 같은 맥락을 보이고 있는 것이므로 하나의 양식으로 설정하였다. 그리고 이 토기들의 중심지에 대해 고고자료뿐만 아니라 문헌자료를 토대로 고성지역(固城地域)을 중심으로 하는 소가야를 나타내는 것이 분명함을 논하면서 소가야양식 토기로 명명하였다.

영문 초록

Studies on the Three Kingdoms period in the Youngnam Province have mainly been aimed at identifying the characteristics of the polities of each region, such as Silla or Gaya. But due to the lack of historical documents, many scholars think negatively about the hypothesis that Sogaya may have formed a polity. Thus, this study began with the following question: “What are the archaeological materials which prove Sogaya’s entity?” Among pottery excavated in the Sogaya territory, this study carried out form classification on the ‘triangled javelin thrower figurine dish without cover’, ‘triangled javelin thrower figurine dish with cover’, ‘unmounted rectangular javelin thrower figurine dish’, ‘mounted reciprocal javelin thrower figurine dish’, ‘cover’, ‘jar with horizontal mouth’, ‘big axe pattern jar with straight mouth’, ‘bowl-shaped stand with horizontal mouth’, ‘cylinder-shaped stand’, ‘big axe pattern bowl with handle’, and ‘cup with handle’ according to the characteristic traits of each type of ceramic vessel. They were then arranged in order and defined as Sogaya type pottery. On the basis of the results, they were divided into seven phases (I~VII). The lowest time limit of each period was established based on reference literature, and each period was dated through crossdating with Daegaya type pottery, Silla type pottery, Japanese Sueki, etc. There are many different opinions regarding the center of Sogaya type pottery, since little is known about the pottery culture of the Goseong area in the 5th century. But according to excavations recently carried on in the areas of Goseong and Tongyeong, the Goseong area can be confirmed as the center of Sogaya from the first half of the 5th century till its collapse in that Sogaya type pottery belonging to the first half of the 5th century was excavated in this area and Sogaya style tombs were confirmed.
