영문 초록

To elucidate seasonality of birth in positive and negative schizophrenia, we categorized 123 schizophrenic patients from Chung-Ang University affiliated Pildong and Yongsan Hospital, Anyang Neuropsychiatric Institute from Feb. 1 1992 to Apr. 15 1992 according to Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS). Subjects were composed of 63 positive, 56 negative and 4 belongs to neither type and collected data were analyzed by chisquare test using SPSS. The results were as follows: 1) There were significant differences in occupation and marital status between two groups, and jobless and unmarried marital status were more prevalent in negative group than in positive group. Meanwhile, single marital status was more prevalent in winter birth than in summer birth. 2) There were no significant differences in sex, age, birth order, educational status and socioeconomic status between two groups. 3) There were no significant difference in season of birth between schizophrenia with and without family history. 4) There were no significant difference in season of birth between schizophrenia groups and general population. 5) There were significant difference in season of birth among positive, negative and neither group. Positive syndrome (19%) is more prevalent than negative syndrome(7.1 %) in autumn birth, while negative syndrome(25 %) is more prevalent than positive syndrome(l9%) in summer birth
