영문 초록

In order to evaluate the effect of lateralization of epileptogenic lesions on depression and anxiety (state and trait), 17 adult patients with a left temporal lobe focus, 19 with a right focus, 20 with bilateral temporal foci, and 19 individuals with generalized seizures were assessed with depression scale (Beck Depression Inventory) and the State and Trait Anxiety Inventory. Patients with left-sided temporal lobe epilepsy scored significantly higher than other groups on self ratings for depression and state anxiety. This could not be accounted for by factors such as duration of epilepsy, education, duration of medication, age at seizure onset Our results are consistent with the growing evidence that unilateral left involvement is a predisposition to an increased depression and anxiety
