영문 초록

Objects : This study was performed to evaluate the outcome of inpatient alcoholics and various clinical variables affecting the relapse of alcoholism. Methods • The consecutively admitted 75 patients with alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence were follwed up retrospectively. The successfully followed forty-three patients were divided into two groups, relapse and nonrelapse. The relapse of alcoholism was defined by any drinking within 4 months after discharge. We compared the clinical variables between two groups. Results : Twenty-eight(65.1 % ) of the followed patients relapsed. Among them twenty-three (82. 1%) relapsed within 3 months after discharge. Several clinical variables including earlier onset of age, longer duration of drinking, history of early parental separation, and Cloninger’s Type 2 drinker were significantly correlated with the relapse of alcoholism. However, demographic data, genetic factor, diagnosis, comorbidity with depression or personality disorder, and number of admission were not significantly correlated with relapse. Conclusion : These results suggest that there are subtypes of alcoholism with different etiology, clinical pictures, and different prognosis. And so different therapeutic approach may be needed.
